The law in Oregon regarding the setting

took up their burden and it was carefully
taken to the Maplewood cemetery where,

by chance at McMinnvilJe during the re
cent bimetallic convention. As is the cus
tom ia ail conventions in Oregon every
delegate does his best to get acquainted
with every other delegate, and all delegates
speak whether acquainted or not. Several
delegates were going about introducing a
rather handsome man of 40 or thereabouts,
whom they called Mr. Booth, of McMinn
villo. Tbey would say of him : "Mr. Booth
is a son of tbe sheriff who banged John
Brown, of Ossawatomie.at Harper's ferry."
Ail of which cansed people to take more
than common interest in Mr. Booth. Fin
ally Mr. Booth was introduced to a man of
excellent appearance whose name was Sol
omon Brown. After the introduction. Mr.
Booth and Mr. Brown chatted very pleas
antly for a minute or two.
Mr. Booth," said Mr. Brown, "was it
your father that hanged John Brown at
Harper's Ferry f"
"Yes," said Mr. Booth.
at that time and it was his duty to officiate
at the execution. No relative of yours, I
hopef"
"Only my father." was the quiet reply.
Mr. Booth and Mr. Brown walked to a
quiet corner in tbe hotel and talked old
times for half an hour. Tbey shook bands
cordially when separating.
