The grain ra tion should be of ground or cracked cum, and grouned oatea or bran, the graiu being mixed with the buy, h that the hay and grain will have to be oaten together, aa it Inn been found that in thia way tha graiu ia much more fully digested. As to the amount of grain that shall help make up a ra tion, that must depend on circuiuatanc f and tho ability of the owner to pro vide the grain, or, perhaps better, hia inclination to provide the grain, and also the work which the horse ia called upon to do. The thing of chief importance ia to get farmers to discard a part of the hay ration, and substitute for thia discarded hay at least its value iu the more condensed nutrition of corn, oats, or bran; the rest will n a to rely follow.
