The senior from Walnut, Calif., belted her 15th home run of the season, the best single-season mark in Oregon history. She set the school record for the most ca reer home runs with her 32nd long ball on Friday. Ducks break records and slump ■Jill Robinson and the other Oregon seniors finish their Pacific-10 Conference careers in style, beating California 4-0 By Matt O'Neill Oregon Daily Emerald What a weekend for Jill Robinson. In the three final Pacific-10 Conference home games of the senior’s career she set two new school home run records. On Friday, the Winton, Calif., native belted the 32nd homer of her career, breaking a tie with Kathy Stahl for most career home runs. Then on Sunday, she crushed her 15th tater of the season, moving past Katie Mackey for the most in a single season. “I was ready to go,” Robin son said. “I was really focused and really intense the whole game. I wish cameras were here so I could smile for them.” Unfortunately the team did not have as much success as Robinson did, dropping two of the three games. On Friday, the No. 16 Ducks (34-24 overall, 6 12 Pac-10) lost to No. 10 Stan ford 2-1, and then to No. 9 Cali fornia 4-0 Saturday. But the Ducks got the win they needed Sunday, beating Cal 4-0 and sending the seniors out winners. “We got together right before the game and talked about how we needed to send them out on a good note,” head coach Rick Gamez said. “They laid it all Turn to Softball, page 15 (i That was so much fun. Connie McMurren pitcher yy UO pleasantly surprised by NCAA berths For the first time in Oregon history, both the men’s and women’s tennis teams are headed to the NCAA Tournament By Robbie McCallum for the Emerald After a tumultuous regular season and weeks of uncertain ty, the Oregon tennis teams are both on their way to the NCAA tournament. For the first time in school history, both the men’s and women’s squads qual ified for the NCAA Tour nament after mixed show ings at the Pacific-10 Champi onships on April 30. The Duck men take on Fres no State in the first round on May 13. The 14th-ranked Bull dogs are 23-4 on the season and won the Western Athletic Con ference crown this season. A loss in the WAC championship semifinals ended an impres sive 18-game win streak for Fresno State. The Bulldogs are talented and experienced. No. 32 Peter Luczak holds the No. 1 singles position, followed by No. 42 Olivier Lejuene and No. 82 Rob Cheyne. Fresno State “is a very solid team. They’ve played consis tently and hard all season,” head coach Chris Russell said. “But it’s not like we haven’t seen this level of play before.” The NCAA berth is only the second in school history for No. 60 Oregon.
