Ducks break records and slump
■Jill Robinson and the other Oregon
seniors finish their Pacific-10 Conference
careers in style, beating California 4-0
By Matt O'Neill
Oregon Daily Emerald
What a weekend for Jill
Robinson.
In the three final Pacific-10
Conference home games of the
senior’s career she set two new
school home run records.
On Friday, the Winton,
Calif., native belted the 32nd
homer of her career, breaking a
tie with Kathy Stahl for most
career home runs. Then on
Sunday, she crushed her 15th
tater of the season, moving past
Katie Mackey for the most in a
single season.
“I was ready to go,” Robin
son said. “I was really focused
and really intense the whole
game. I wish cameras were
here so I could smile for them.”
Unfortunately the team did
not have as much success as
Robinson did, dropping two of
the three games. On Friday, the
No. 16 Ducks (34-24 overall, 6
12 Pac-10) lost to No. 10 Stan
ford 2-1, and then to No. 9 Cali
fornia 4-0 Saturday.
But the Ducks got the win
they needed Sunday, beating
Cal 4-0 and sending the seniors
out winners.
“We got together right before
the game and talked about how
we needed to send them out on
a good note,” head coach Rick
Gamez said. “They laid it all

The Duck men take on Fres
no State in the first round on
May 13. The 14th-ranked Bull
dogs are 23-4 on the season and
won the Western Athletic Con
ference crown this season. A
loss in the WAC championship
semifinals ended an impres
sive 18-game win streak for
Fresno State. The Bulldogs are
talented and experienced. No.
32 Peter Luczak holds the No.
1 singles position, followed by
No. 42 Olivier Lejuene and No.
82 Rob Cheyne.
Fresno State “is a very solid
team. They’ve played consis
tently and hard all season,”
head coach Chris Russell said.
“But it’s not like we haven’t
seen this level of play before.”
The NCAA berth is only the
second in school history for
No. 60 Oregon. Four players
