While the facts are not all in on this lase. the cir cumstances warrant a discussion of what can he done to prevent further o< currences Child abuse is one of the more heinous < rimes. And the people who must determine what is and what isn't child abuse nurses, schoolteai hers and soi ial workers, to name just a few are in an extremely un enviable position Where to draw the line? Stiffening current laws would inevitably lead to a child taken from a home without due cause. Families have a tough enough joli these days just staying together they don’t need anv senseless heartache from the government (.dearly, draconian child abuse laws am not a simple solution Yes. more vic tims would he tourid. but spreading the net would also trap many in nocents. The well de served stigma of a child abuser should not be giv en lightly or without suffi i lent reason. Is it better to risk tin fairly accusing a parent of i hild abuse, rather than risk the life of a i hild?
