The death of 18-month old Springfield boy Joshua
Kails ranks high on the list of obscene, needless trage
dies When a child is the victim of such outright abuse,
anger follows.
While the facts are not all in on this lase. the cir
cumstances warrant a discussion of what can he done
to prevent further o< currences
Child abuse is one of the more heinous < rimes.
And the people who must determine what is and what
isn't child abuse nurses, schoolteai hers and soi ial
workers, to name just a few are in an extremely un
enviable position
Where to draw the line? Stiffening current laws
would inevitably lead to a child taken from a home
without due cause. Families have a tough enough joli
these days just staying together they don’t need anv
senseless heartache from the government
