We will be using shades of grey with the addition of a few colors. Inlay techniques taught, plus colored slips available to students. Mondays 6-9pm (anuary 19 - February 9 $29 RAKU * VICTORIA LYNN SHAW Raku is a 15th century Japanese method of firing pottery that takes |ust 30 minutes! Delightful glaze effects for both sculpture and functional pieces. Originally, raku ware was used in connection with the Zen tea ceremony. Instruction will include wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques. Beginning and continuing students welcome. Clay and glazes included. 18 hours of instruction. Students will learn the "Gutta Serti" resist method and create their own projects. One half yard silk provided. Bring water color brushes (op tional). 15 hours instruction. Wednesdays <>-9pm January 21 - February 18 $29 BASKETMAKING ARDIS IETEY Baskets for your berries, baskets for those eggs, baskets for going to market, to market to buy a fat pig! (or buy organic vegies). Weave baskets of rattan reed and vine handles * try a natural dye on that reed. Materials for 2 baskets included. 12 hours instruction. Mondays f»-9pm January 19 - February 9 $25 NAVAJO WEAVING CHARLINE DURCHANEK Design and weave a Navajo rug. Using a por table frame loom, students with or without prior experience will design a small Navajo weaving, set a loom and complete a project. Advanced students will learn more com plicated tec hniques and designs. Cost in cludes frame loom, which is yours to keep, and first warp yarns. 18 hours instruction. Mondays 6-9pm January 19 - Feb.23 $54 QUILTING * BEGINNING STITCHES SHEILA STEERS Basic piecing and sewing techniques will be taught. Several methods of joining and finishing quilts will be discussed. A good plate for beginning quilters to start or for those who want to brush up on sewing skills for making quilts. 1216 hours of instruction. Tuesdays 6:30-9:00pm January 20 - February 17 $19 NATIVE AMERICAN BEADING WILMA CROWE This workshop will introduce you to Native American Beading techniques, including the peyote stitch. Make beaded earrings, key chains, necklaces, bracelets, etc. Background and history of beading will be covered. Mondays 1-4pm Starts January 19 $7 BEGINNING KNITTING KRISTINE IOHNSEN Students with no or very little experience knitting will learn basic knitting techniques using the 'Continental' method. Simple pro jects such as scarves, pot-holders, afghans and hats will be made. Knitters with ex perience in the American and British methods may find this a useful addition and a good way to learn: the long-tail cast on, knitting into the stitch below to increase, and the slip, slip, knit decrease. 8 hours of instruction. Saturdays 12:30-2:30pm $11 members (anuary 24 - February 14 $13 non-members INTERMEDIATE KNITTING KRISTINE IOHNSEN Students with a knowledge of the knitting basics will knit a bulky vest using the pattern provided or alter the pattern to fit the gauge of the yarn they prefer to use. Students should already know how to: cast on, knit, — ■11 purl, increase by knitting into the back of a stitch or the row below, decrease, bind off, and measure gauge. Vest pattern will be sup plied. 6 hours of instruction. Saturdays 12:30-2:30pm $10 members February 21 - March 7 $12 non-members SEWING * SARAH WANK Sewing for the inexperienced! Overcome your fear of the sewing machine, and feel comfortable working with fabric. Develop basic skills in sewing and pattern reading. Choose a simple article of clothing or other project to complete. Pattern, fabric, and no tions will be purchased by the students. 15 hours of instruction. Demonstration of moveable joints, making eyes, nose, mouth and how to dress your bear. Lots of bears will attend this workshop to inspire you. Mondays 6:30-9:30pm February 2 and 9 $13 TABLE LOOM WEAVING * SHARON JONES Learn the basics of Table Loom Weaving while creating your own woolen scarf and woven mittens. Mondays 6:30-9:30pm january 19 - February 23 $29 LEATHER MOCCASIN MAKING * RICHARD HEINEL We will make ourselves a pair of heavy buf falo skin moccasins, including pattern mak ing, recognizing leathers, tool maintenance, basic leather techniques and tips about working with leathers, applying soles, and button making. Moccasins can be hand or machine stitched. Allow $65-$85 for leathers and materials. 18 hours of instruction. In this class we'll work on your ability to 'see' using techniques from the book 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.' Paper, pencils, and charcoal provided. 1716 hours of instruction. Mondays 7-9:30 lanuary 19 - March 2 $27 AIRBRUSH PAINTING * STEVEN OSHATZ A workshop on the mechanics and applica tions of the airbrush as well as aesthetic con siderations of the medium. A variety of paint ing techniques will be covered, focusing on adapting the use of the airbrush to your par ticular needs. Equipment will be provided. 15 hours of instruction. Tuesdays 6:30-9:30pm lanuary 20 - February 10 $27 WOOD BEGINNING WOODWORKING * BILLY SULLIVAN/IIM ELLINGBOE Materialize your ideas in the woodshop. Create a project while learning power tool use and safety. Instruction will cover project design, wood properties, hand and power tool use and joinery. Wednesdays 6:40-9: 30pm February 18 - March 4 $16 LAPIDARY * IOE PETERSON Shape your own cabochons in this basic in troductory class. Rock cutting, polishing, identification of semi-precious gemstones, and familiarity with lapidary equipment is in cluded. Lapidary is easy to learn and fun to do. 10 hours of instruction. Mondays 7-9pm lanuary 19 - February 16 (limited enrollment) PAPERMAKING I AIMEE YOGI Winter is the traditional season for paper making. Join us in an exploration of primitive Himalayan, European, and lapanese paper making methods. There will be a brief slide show of the history of Papermaking. The course will rover the Italic script used for both formal writing and handwriting. Class projects will include making greeting t arris, accordion books and envelope design. The course will cover the basic techniques and formation of ( hinese c harac ters as well as the introduc tory history of artistic Chinese calligraphy. All works will be done with tradi tional Chinese brush and ink. 12 hours instruction.
