The lake was formed by the great eruption of Mt. Mazama long ago. The crater of this volcano became Crater Lake. The crater is almost round, covering 21 square miles. Towering walls of rock make a sheer drop into the lake, and in the middle of the lake is the inactive cone of the volcano, known as Wizard Island. The lake is one of the Nor thwest’s most popular recreation areas. There are many trails around the lake, varying in length from short walks to hikes of many miles. Crater Lake park is full of Blacktail and Rocky Mountain Mule deer. Elk and cougars have been seen, and squirrels, chip munks, marmot and cony are in abundance. Black bear are common and are very rarely known to cause any trouble to campers. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and kokane salmon. No fishing license is required and boats are available for rental. The lake is a constant tem perature, furnished with water only by the mdting shows around it. A classical drama of a strike by Mexican-American zinc workers. The struggle of the women of the community for equality and better living con ditions is interwoven with the miner's struggle for racial equality and better working conditions. This film examines the social forces that shape the self-conceptions of women. The story unfolds through the lives of six women.
