Razing Must Start Feb. 3 City Orders Willcox Destruction A letter directing the demoli tion of the Wiileox Building, which houses the College Side Inn, was sent to Co-op Manager Gerald Henson by acting Supt. of Buildings Inspection Lester Bar ker Barker’s letter, dated Jan. 10, said that the building is “di lapidated and badly in need of repairs." The following points were made in the letters: There is dry rot in the still plates and stud ding in the north and west walls and in several supporting col umns on the south side. Supports Inadequate The southeast balcony has in adequate supports on the east side. The east bay roof is sag ging. Wiring Not Good The building is inadequately wired. An investigation by the Lane County Health Department re vealed that the W-illcox Building is in an unsanitary condition due to sewage and seepage. The building is of Type V (wood frame) construction. It is located in Fire Zone No. 1, which is regulated by Uniform Building Code Section IttOZ This section says that Type V build ing.s in Fire Zone 1 may be re paired in the interior or on the front. Apartment* Unusable Section H 1001 of the Uniform Housing Code labels the second story of the building as sub-stan riard and unusable for apart ments. Repairs needed to make the Willcox Building safe would be either greater or different than those permitted by Uniform Building Code, Section 1502, sub section <2).
