Peterson Faces OSU Today As Ducks Start ND Season Don Kirsch takes his Oregon baseball team to Corvallis for an afternoon game with Oregon State, weather permitting. Denny Peterson (4-0i, the 5’7 right hander, will start for the Ducks. Both teams open the Northern Division season with this contest. The two teams will play again Saturday at Howe Field. OREOON STATE comes into the game with a 13-6 record as against 13-4 for the Webfoots. The Beavers suffered through a wretched trip to California which saw them lose five straight gjur.es -the last three by one run each. Since then, the Staters have come back impressively, winning 13 out of 14 games against North west competition. BIG LEON CRIXER will open j for Ralph Coleman's Beavers to- j day. Criner, a fastball artist, has Struck out 43 men in 32 innings while compiling a 3-1 mark. Cole man will probably save Bill Oerd ing, the leading pitcher in the Northern Division last year, for Saturday’s Howe Field game. All-America leftfielder Larry Petersen is only the third highest j Beaver in the batting averages with a .382 mark. But his 21 RBI’s, best on Oregon State, show that he's probably then most dangerous hitter. Outfielder Grimm Mason, at .397, and sopho more firstbaseman Harry Demor est, at .393, are the two leading hitters on OSC’s club.
