Timber Town Winners Told Timber Town Duplicate Bridge Club will not meet Monday eve ning, Sept. 2, because of tho Labor Day holiday. The next meeting will be Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Fullerton and the hostess, Mrs. Turner. Contract bridge was enjoyed during the evening with Mrs. Wharton and Mrs. Fullerton tying for high score and Mrs. Rich mond receiving me traveling prize. Bridge Winners Told Wednesday lMrs. Virgil Lomax was a most gracious hostess Wednesday when she entertained her bridge club at a 12:30 o'clock luncheon at her lovely home. Mrs. Morgan Club Hostess Mrs. Chester Morgan was a most gracious hostess Monday, when she entertained her duplicate bridge club at her lovely home in Laurel wood. Dahlias formed the attrac tive motif for the occasion. At the tea hour Mrs. Morgan served lovely refreshments to Miss Helen Casey, a guest, and Mrs. R. D. Coon, Mrs. L. J. Fullerton, Mrs. J. P. Motschenbacher, Mrs. D. B. Bubar, Mrs. C. B. Wade, Mrs. Ivan Pickens, Mrs. Clair K. Allen, Mrs. H. H. Turner, Mrs. Walter Ulrich and Mrs. E. C. Pat terson. - , Men score for the afternoon's duplicate bridge play was won by Mrs. Uoen ana Mrs. ruuenon wuu Mrs. Turner and Mrs. Patterson winning the second high score. Country Club Events Enjoyed Many members of the Roseburg Country Club entertained house guests from' Friday through Sun day and spent the weekend parti cipating in the Invitational Golf Tournament at the club. Outstanding events of the week end included the Friday buffet served on the patio. A luncheon was enjoyed Saturday and a din ner dance that evening. A special program was presented and gor geous floral arrangements were used for the social events. Mrs. Kenneth Bailey acted as chairman of decorations for tho affairs. A largo number of social gatherings at private homes preceded the events at the clubhouse. Kevin Babitt 8 Years-Old Kevin Babbitt, son of Dr. and Mrs. C. II. Babbitt, celebrated his eighth birthday at a delightful par ty at tho Hawthorn Pool Thursday afternoon. Swimming and games were enjoyed and later Airs. Bab bitt, assisted by her daughter, Aliss Jennifer, served refreshments and cut the beautifully decorated birthday cake. Robert Marshall Honored Sunday Robert W. Marshall celebrated his 19th birthday at a delightful dinner given by his parents, Mr. and Airs. Robert Marshall Sunday, Aug. 25. Covers were placed for the guest of honor and his brother and sis tcr in law, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Roberts, and their sons, Ronald. Roger and Richard, of Grants Pass; Kathy Howard and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alar-shall. The largest affair of the sum mer took place Sunday at 0 a k Tree Inn, when Dr. and Mrs. G. C. Finlay, prominent Roseburg residents for many years, cele brated their fiftieth wedding anni versary at an open house given by their son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. James R. Finlay, of this city. The gold motif was beautifully carried out throughout the rooms, the buffet table and the attrac lively appointed tables on the cov ered lanai overlooking the North Umpqua River. Background organ music was played during the reception hours by Mrs. t rances Lintott, Mrs. Hom er W. Grow and R. Cloyd Riffe. Karen Finlay, granddaughter of the guests of honor, presented the guest book; the host and hostess' sons, Jim Jr., Gary, David and Scott, assisted in receiving the guests. For the occasion Mrs. Finlay was charming in a silk afternoon dress of gold print with a corsage of two large white orchids. Assisting with the receiving, serving and about the rooms were Miss Helen' Casey, Mrs. H. H. Turner, Mrs. L. J. Shoemaker, Mrs. Archie Rutter, Mrs. A. B. Taylor, Mrs. G. W. Marshall, Mrs. Earl F. Several hundred guests called during the afternoon to congratu late the guests of honor and enjoy the delightful occasion. Ethel M. Skinner, daughter of B. F. Skinner of Roseburg, and Dr. G. C. Finlay were married in Roseburg Aug. 12, 1913. Mrs. Fin lay was born in Port Huron, Mich. She is a charter member of Chap ter BI, PEO Sisterhood, and past matron of Roseburg Chapter, OES. Dr. Finlay, who was born in Bat tle Creek, Mich., was graduated in 1911 from University of Illinois. He is a member of Delta Sigma Delta Traditiona Party Given To compliment Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Ncwland, who were re cently married in Orofino, Idaho, the traditional family party was given Sunday evening by Mr. and Airs. Chester Morgan at their beau tiful home in Laurelwood. Gorgeous arrangements of dah lias formed the dcocrations for the occasion. Bride-To-Be Is Honored At Glendale Shower Party Aliss Virginia Perry, daughter of Mr. and Airs. Sid Perry of Glen dale. was honored at a bridal show er Alonday evening in the Olivet Presbyterian Church social room. Hostesses were Airs. George Mill and Airs. David Bollinger of Klam ath Falls, Airs. Riley Furlong of Grants Pass, and Airs. Jimmy Fos ter of Azalea. Before the honoree was present ed with her gifts, games were play ed, with ins. Don Thomas receiv ing a prize. One of the favorite recipes brought to the honoree by each guest was given to one win ner. Mrs. Walt McAllister. The room was beautifully decor ated with summer flowers. Three cakes were served. One, of double ring design, was white and silver; a second featured the names, "Claude and Virginia," was white, yellow and green; the third cake shaped to form the dress of a love ly bride doll, was white with silver bead decorations. Mrs. Bill Perry of Eugene pour ed the coffee, and Airs. Foster and Mrs. Bollinger served the cake. Those present were Mrs. Clifford Miller, Mrs. Hugh Morrell, Mrs. Jimmy Johns. Mrs. P. J. Miller, Mrs. Vernal Bigelow, Mrs. Pirlcy Winkclman, Airs. James M i X e, and an honorary member of Omi cron Kappa Upsilon. He served on the State Board of Dental Ex aminers from 1921 through 1925. He has been a Roseburg City Coun cilman and was on the Roseburg School board for 12 years. He is a Mason and a life member of the American Dental Association. One of Roseburg's highlights was the result of Dr. Finlay coaching the high school basketball team, which won the state championship m 1917. A member of the team Grant Osborn, was among guests attending the golden wedding anni versary reception. Finlay Field here was named in honor of Dr. Finlay in 1925. Dr. Finlay began his practice in Roseburg in 1911 and retired in 1958. The Finlays have two sons Dr. Gilbert C. Finlay Jr., who with his wife, Virginia, and chil dren, Joanne, Kitty and Chris live in Champaign, 111., where he is heading a new science project, and Dr. James R. Finlay, who with his wife, Alice, and children, Jim Jr., Garry, David, Karen and Scott, live in Roseburg. Dr. James Finlay took over his father's dental practice here. Following the reception, a buffet dinner was served to the Finlay family and Mr. and Mrs. John Bergen of Coos Bay. Bergen is a fraternity brother of Dr. Gilbert Finlay. They both were graduated from Oregon State University and served together in World War II in the South Pacific. Dr. Gilbert Finlay left the following day by plane for his home in Illinois. Both Dr. and Mrs. Finlay enjoy excellent health and have a wide circle of friends. Dr. Finlay has gardened as a hobby for many years and is an authority on the raising of chrysanthemums. The Finlays have a summer place on the North Umpqua River, which they have maintained for many years,, and which is enjoyed by the family throughout the year. The 6:30 p.m. dinner was a sur prise to the honored guest when friends arrived to wish him a hap py birthday. Following the dinner served on the patio, visiting was enjoyed by the group, and the birthday cake was cut and served with ice cream by the hostess.
