S-M-L-XL.- 1 99 5 98 Sutherlin Girl To Attend University Of Stockholm Jane Bender, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bender of Sutherlin, will leave Aug. 30 to attend the University of Stockholm in Sweden. Jane will be a junior this fall. She previously attended the University of Oregon where she is a mem ber of Sigma Kappa Sorority. , She will go by plani to New York where she will spend three days sightseeing and attending a Broadway musical. On Sept. 3 she will sail on the MS Kungsholm to Gothenburg, Sweden, and trav el by train to Stockholm. Forty students from the United States will be attending the uni versity in the fall. They will be welcomed in Stockholm at a series of receptions and tours throughout the city. The school, an accredit ed university, offers many elective courses in the liberal arts field. An intensive study of the Swedish language is required for all stu dents. During the school year, botb Miss Bender and a college friend, Judie Johanson of Westport, will take part in an organized skiing trip to Lapland and a tour of var ious places in Russia. The two girls also plan to go on their own to the mainland of Europe, spend ing some time in France where they will visit a sorority sister who will be attending the Sor bonne. They will also spend some time visiting at the home of Miss Jo hanson's relatives who live ; in southern Sweden. The two girls will return to the United States some time during the summer of 1964. Granddaughters Feted At Party ;" Mrs. Howard Carnes of Elkton was hostess recently at a birthday party in honor of her twin grand daughters, Terie and Carie, who celebrated their second birthday. Guests for the afternoon party were Norma Latham of Yoncalla, Mrs. Alvin Kcsterson and children, Mrs. Vern Clemo and children, Mrs. Jim Flemming and daughter, Lisa, Mrs. Maude Thiol and Mrs. Delton Theil of Yoncalla and Pat Carnes. The afternoon was spent with the children playing and en joying cake and ice cream. ' ! Henry Conn's Descendants Have 16th Annual Picnic The 16th annual family reunion of the descendants of Henry Conn was an event of Sunday at Ump qua Park. Seventy-seven enjoyed the ' picnic and afternoon of visit ing. President Roscoe Conn of Mel rose conducted a brief business meeting. Silent meditation was ob served in rememberance of close friends and relatives who had pass ed away during the year: Ernest Fenn, Dale Busenbark and Stah men Diller. Henry Conn came to Oregon in 1854, settling in the Melrose area. His family included nine sons and two daughters. Most of those in attendance at the reunion this year were from Douglas County. New est members of the clan include three babies: Otto, born Sept. 10, 1962, to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Horn of Klamath Falls; Ryan Douglas, born Oct. 27, 1?62, to Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Farmer of Albany; and David Lee, born to Mr. and Mrs. Norval Conn of Roseburg July 6, 1963. Most recently married was Miss Nancy Handy to Thomas El liott, on July 21, 1963. They now Steak Dinner Given By Hills The annual steak fry for mem bers and husbands of Xi Omicron, Beta Sigma Phi, was held at 'the home of Mr. and Mrs.-Harry Hill. Mr. pill served as chef at the grill in the lovely garden of their home. .ti Enjoying the affair and pleasant evening of visiting were Miss Helen Casey, Mr. 'and Mrs. Clarson Chit wood, Mr. and Mrs. John Horn, Miss Joan Harper, Mrs. Florence Powell, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Short,. (Jay) Conn, Melrose, was elected president, with Mrs. Tom Chapman, Coos Bay, as vice president, and Mrs. Gail Cooper, Roseburg, secretary. Retiring sec retary was Mrs. Lee R. Conn of Garden Valley. HARRY GAY, above, observed their 55th wedding anniversary at Forest Glen in Canyonville. Friends from Portland arrived to share the occasion. Harry Gay and Grace M. Walker were married in Minnea polis, Minn., Aug. 18, 1908. Elder Gay served in the minis terial and publishing department of the Seventh-day Ad ventist Conference. He served in Kansas City and was in Portland with the conference for 17 years. He retired in 1962. They moved last December to Forest Glen, where Gay is one of its founders. Fri., Aug. 30, 1963 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 9 Winter Wedding Set AtGlendale Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pate of Glen dale announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary, to Lloyd Eu gene Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Forbus of Cottage Grove. A December wedding is planned, and the ceremony will be held in Glen dale. Miss Pate was graduated from Glendale High School in 1960. She is employed by the California Sea Land . Corporation in Oakland, Calif., as a secretary. Clark was graduated from the Glendale High School in 1958 and is employed by General Motors, Inc. of Fremont, Calif. He is a resident of Los Gatos, Calif. Delightful Party Is Held To Honor Mrs. J. Foster Mrs. Johnny Foster of Glendale was honored at a pink and blue snower hem in the Missionary Bap tist Church basement Wednes day evening. The room was taste fully decorated with pink and blue streamers and large baskets of as sorted color gladioli and daisies. Games were played, with Mrs. Don Rogers winning a prize. Mrs. Oscar Davidson won the door prize. After the honorec had opened her many lovely gifts, the host esses, Mrs. Jesse Stanfill, and Auxiliary Has Recent Potluck Mrs. Wilma Higgins of Elkton was hostess at her home recently to the' American Legion Women's Auxiliary at a - potluck luncheon with the following guests present: Mrs. Jim Adamo and children of Gardiner, Mrs. Guy Cutlip, Mrs. Sharron Colley, Mrs. Ethel Alford and Sue Mitchell. Sue Mitchell, who was sponsored by the Elkton Auxiliary to attend Girl's State, gave . her report. The next meeting will be Tues day, Sept. 9, potluck at noon at the home of Mrs. Jerry Winter-botham. Baseball Team, Families Enjoy Picnic At Tenmile The end of the baseball season at Tenmile was celebrated at a picnic held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dwight. The pot luck and wiener roast were attend ed by members of the Tenmile pee wee baseball team and their families.
