Vikings Garner Subdistrict Title The Myrtle Creek Vikings won their fourth straight Subdiatrict 6 A 2 championship Saturday by top ping the second place Sutherlin Bulldogs 142-120 in the sub district meet held at Myrtle Creek. Douglas' Trojans came in third with 63 points followed by Glide's Wildcats and the Glendale Pirates tied for fourth with 48 each and the Riddle Irish in sixth with 10. Individually, the top three finish ers in each event will take part in the district meet at Myrtle Creek this Saturday, strongest competi tion from the southern subdistrict is exnected to be from Rogue Riv er. St. Mary's and Myrtle Creek rank as the top contending dark horses. The Vikings picked up seven first places in the subdistrict meet Sat urday with sutncriin coming in second in that department with four. Douglas picked up two Iirsts and the final top spot went to Glendale. Ross Barkhurtt Tops In individual first place winner listinea. Mvrtle Creek's Ross Bark- hurst stood on top, with three firsts of his own. as well as be ing a member of the winning 880-yard relay team. Barkhurst won firsts in the discus, 220-yard dash and 100-yard dash. Ed Cad man of Myrtle Creek captured firsts in the mile and 880-yard run. The other double winner was Sutherlin's Gary Hall, who won the high and low hurdles. Other southern subdistrict teams competing in Saturday's district Tennis Squad Loses Title Hoscburg High School's Sherry Sevall after dropping her opening match to top-sccded Linda Irwin of Sunset, came back to capture the consolation championship In the girl's state tennis tournament at Corvallis last weekend. In the boy's state tournament, the Harris twins, Don and Mike, won their first two matches Fri day, but were stopped by the top seeded pair in the doubles semi finals Saturday. The Harris twins dropped 6-4, 6-3 sets to top-seeded Eric Ncwhall and Chip Harris of Portland's Wilson High in the emi-finals. Wilson won the boy's state crown, while Roseburg finished tied for fourth. In the girls tournament, Miss Sevall came back from her ini tial defeat to stop Denise Scott of Corvallis 6-0, 8-0 In the first round of the consolation action. In the econd round, she beat Anita Kil- gore of Willamina 6-1, 6-3. Then, in the championship match, Miss Se vall downed Crlsti Jerstcdt of Hood River 8-1, 6-2 tor the title. In the doubles, Roseburg'i Mi chelle Lebeau and Martha Hcd rick defeated Moore and Hoover from Hcrmlslon 6-2, 6-4 In their first match. Thoy lost in the sec ond round to Kohlcr and Taylor from David Douglas, 6-0, 6-1. Nancy Crenshaw and Judy Zclg ler were defeated by Irving and Lowery from Mcdford 6-0, 8-3. CORVALLIS (UPD-Wllson won the boys division and David Douglas captured the girls' divi sion in the Oregon high school tennis tournament which ended Saturday. North Salem's Dave Shuford de feated Charlie Alloo 6-3, 6 0 and Corvallis' Sue Graham topped Ju lie Kaspari of David Douglas 6-2, 6-1 in the singles' finals. The doubles' winners were Gary Highland and Mike Naumcs of Mcciford and Joan Peek and Marty Krohn of Ncwbcrg. Oregon Tracksters Romp Over Huskies EUGENE, Ore. Roseburg Harriers Fall In Triangular Track Go The Marshtield Pirates and North Bend Bulldogs broke even in the point column at the trian gular inert in Roseburg Saturday to share the championship. Each had 58 points. Hosting Roseburg had sonic top, individual performances but had to settle for 35 points. Rosebuig's finest performance came from Tom Dodge who broke the school record with a polo vault of 12 feel 6 inches. The for mer record was 12-5 3-8. Dodge had to share his top jump, however, with a Marshfield soph omore, Dennis l'arrish, who also cleared the height. Coach Jack Uurg also had high praise for Al Jnelsen, Mike Crunican and Doug DuFresne. Joelson, who has w o n every meet, added another victory with a 5-foot 10 high jump. Crunican was again unbeatable in the mile, , and DuFresne, who has shown the most spectacular improvement of anyone on the squad, added al I most another foot to his shot put ' ting this week. ! Three-Team Bill Set For Baseball A three-team doubleheadcr has tentatively been scheduled for to day, as the three leaders in the Bico-B League try to get all of their rained out games made up and decide a league champion. Tentative plans call for having the Canyonville Tigers face the first game this afternoon, with the Hornets then taking on the Yon calla Eagles in the second game. The doubleheadcr will be held ei ther at Camas Valley or Rose burg. If these games can be played today, this will leave Yoncalla and Canyonville facing each other in two make-up games, while Camas Valley must take on Elkton. Going into this week's games, Canyonville and Yoncalla are tied with 5-0 records. Camas Valley, 3-2,. could still get into a three way tie for the title. Roseburg Fourth In Tee Tourney Steve Smith turned in the last 36-hole score for Roseburg High School golfers competing in the combined District 5 and Upstate tournaments at Corvallis over the weekend. Smith fired an 81 Satur day to go with his 80 from Friday for a 36-hole total of 161. Dave Leiken shot an 80 Satur day, coupled with Friday's 82, for a 162. Dick McLaughlin fired 84 Saturday and 85 Friday for 169, while Greg Krewson matched his Friday score of 85 for a 170 total. Roseburg finished fourth in the team standings for the district.
