Past Noble Grands Install At Ceremonies On Thursday The Past Noble Grands Club of Roseburg met Thursday at the lovely home oC Mr. and Mrs. Walt er Fredrickson. The rooms were beautifully decorated with Canter bury bells and snapdragons. A delicious dessert was served to 25 members and four visitors by the hostesses, Evelyn Fredrickson. Daynise Beach, Ina Farnsworlh and Susie Jackson. The president. Lena Poole, con ducted the meeting. Installing officers were Margr et Saunders and Thella Webber, the latter acting as marshal. Those installed were Vesta Lang field, president; Kalhryn Boving don, vice president; Susan Bow man, secretary; and Dorothy Neal, treasurer. Corsages were present ed to the new officers. Committees appointed were: Cal endar, Ona Williams, Mamie Fett and Ruble Bloom; rummage. Kath rvn Bovingdon, Bertha Bayliss, Bernice McDonald and Lena Poole; piess, Lena Poole; flowers and cards. Faye Crieger. ' Visitors were Anne Saunders, Gail and Peggy Harmon and Su san Saunders, the Harmon sisters sang two selections, "Now the Day is Over" and "I Heard an Old Re frain." ... Those present besides, the host esses were Maggie Dent, Ruth Fairwell Coffee Given For Mrs. Elbert Brock Mrs. Elbert Brock of Glendale was honored at a farewell coffee held recently at the home of Mrs. George Major. Mr. and Mrs. Brock and family will be moving to Sil verton where the former has ac cepted the position of grade school principal. The hostess served refreshments. Several of the guests presented Mrs. Brock with gifts. Those present were Mrs. J. Bry an, Mea. Jim Cox, Mrs. Albert Vaughn. Mrs. Wayne Close. Mrs. Harold Cooley, Mrs. Calvin Fricke, llrs. Autograph Party Given Saturday Mrs. Maude Cole was honored at an autograph party Saturday at the Calapooia clubhouse by a large group of friends to congratulate her on her successful attempt to capture and retain the events of t past by word and picture in her book, "Away Back When." recent ly released for publication. During the afternoon Mrs. Cole autographed books purchased by friends. Mrs. Cole is a member of the pioneer Baird family and came to Oregon at the age of 6. Her novel tells of early phases of country living in the days before modern conveniences. Kerosene lamps, washboards, flat irons, tin bath tubs, horses and buggies, thresh ing machines, one-room schools, firecrackers, steam calliopes and phonographs are all dealt with in the stories contained in this full sized book. t Copies may be ordered from Mrs. Cole for $2.95, postpaid. Installation Set Mr. and Mrs. Wade Worthing ton Sr. will be installed as worthy patron and worthy matron of Ore gon Chapter 57, OES, at the Ma sonic Temple in Canyonville Sat urday evening, June 24. The installation ceremonies are public and all members and friends of the chapter are invited to at tend. Areme Club Has Meeting The Areme Club of the Elkton Eastern Star Chapter met recently at the home of Mrs. Oliver Haines with nine members attending. New officers were elected for the fol lowing year: Marilyn Willey, pres ident; Winnie Albro, vice president Mary Haines, secretary, and lima Hoffman, treasurer. Following the meeting, the hostess served refreshments. Picnic In July Planned By Club A most enjoyable time was had by Ihe members of the Elgaroe Comfort Club when it met at the home of Mrs. Ellis Warner with a luncheon served at 12:30. Mrs. Hen ry Lander was co-hostess. Mrs. Wesley Newman, president, con ducted the business session. A grab bag of dress-up was en joyed by the members, with the prize awarded by Mrs. Carl Back lund. The traveling prize was giv en to Mrs. Claud Yarbraugh. A picninc was planned July 6 at Stewart Park. The next meeting will be Oct. 5 at the home of Mrs. Roland Cheek. Kindergarten Picnic Held At Winston On Friday The final program of the Win ston kindergarten was held Friday at the school with Mrs. Wilbur Bushong, school instructor, as host ess to Ihe students and their moth ers and small sisters and brothers at a picnic luncheon in the patio of the Bushong home in Winston. Group singing and games were enjoyed. Students attending were: Marian Bissonelte, Claude Hall, Donna Sue Hegele. Jimmie Hooten, Judy Jorgensen, Candy Kennerly, Belinda Lorenz, Michael Matthews, Ralph Peterson, Stephen Priestley, Sharon Riley, Patrick Strickling, Maria Talbert and Cindy Weeks. Contest Winners Feted The Glendale Assembly of God Sunday School held a pntluck din ner Thursday evening, at the Glen dale Masonic Temple in honor of the junior high school class which was the winner of a seven-week attendance contest. Van Dermarks Entertain At Lovely Dinner Party Dr. and Mrs. Harry Van Der mark entertained at their Winston home at a delightful dinner party Saturday evening. The table was centered by a lovely arrangement of spring flowers. Places were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Ken Chapin and three daughters; Mrs. Dcssie Grif fin, Mrs. Grace Carroll and Dr. and Mrs. Van Dermark, Steve, Karen and David. A delightful supper party was held at the Van Dermark home re cently after which visiting, music and group singing was enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Shaner, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harris, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. McGuire, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Wagner and the host and hostess, Dr. and Mis. Van Der mark. The degree of the Order of Am aranth was conferred on Ruby Ped- worth and Delia Fisher. Johnnie Scott gave the reading on "Fathers" and each father was given a gift. Mrs. Thiel Complimented On Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Bob Campbell and Mrs. Delton Thiel graciously entertained at a birthday party, honoring Mrs Maud Thiel, at the Campbell home south of Yoncalla, Wednesday. Vis iting was enjoyed by old friends of the honoree. A delicious chicken salad luncheon was served at one o'clock.
