BEDFORD GIVEN SURPRISE BRIDAL SHOWER Mrs. Helen Bedford of Glendale was surprised at a delayed wed ding shower given Thursday at her home. Hostesses were Mrs. Doro thy Bedford, Mrs. Jaunita Wells and Mrs. Mary Ann French. Refreshments were served by the hostesses nfter the honorec had opened her many lovely gifts. The setting lends itself for a magnificent show. McLaugh lin of Azalea announce the engage ment of their daughter, Katherine, to Lavton Brown Jr., son of Mr, and Mrs. Layton Brown of Azalea. Miss McLaughlin was graduated from the Glendale High School last spring is now employed at the South Umpqua Bank in Canyon- ville. Brown is a senior at the Glendale High School. No date for the wedding has been announced. The evening was spent playing games and visiting. Decorations in green and yellow departed from the traditional pink and blue theme and gifts were ar ranged under an umbrella elabor ately decorated in those colors. Mrs. Minnie Davidson, mother of Mrs. Dunbar, who is visiting her from Great Falls, Mont., won the door prize. COUNTRY CLUB LADIES MEET AT LUNCHEON Women of the Roseburg Country Club and Lady Golfers held a joint luncheon Thursday noon at the clubhouse. The golfers played golf tne afternoon and the others played bridge. Bridge winners were Mrs. I. J. Bean, first; Mrs. L. Carlson, second, and Mrs. Har old E. Schmeer, third. All women of the club are invited to meet Thursday at the clubhouse at a 13.30 noon luncheon, followed by golfing and contract bridge. Volunteers were ac cepted to take the school census during the week of Oct. 22. Extensive plans were made for the main project of the year, the school carnival, which will be Oct. 27. Mrs. Dwight Rutan, membership chairman, announced there would be a membership contest with a prize to the room having the great est increase percentane at the end of the contest, Oct. 31. The October meeting of the PTA will he hold Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The short business meeting will precede the regular monthly meeting of the Roseburg School Board of Education which will be hold at Green School. Glide, has filed suit for him in Douglas Counly Circuit Court i against Lawnus F. Moore, Rose-j burg, asking $36.115 60 for injuries; allegedly suffered in a traffic ac-! cident June 23. 19S6. Cellers claims .Moore's car struck the rear of his vehicle as he slow-: ed to turn left off the North Urn p. I qua Highway about 19 miles east of Roseburg. He claims Moore was ' negligent. Mrs. Neil Burpee and Mrs. Gordon LaMotte were proj ect leaders. The project was, "Salads." A number of salads were made by the leaders and served for lunch to 17 members.
