Ch.TW., Apr. 21, 1935 First Quarter Automobile Output Far Exceeds Figure For Same Period Last Year By Harry Elliott Ntws Sarvictj With the end ot the iiret quarter, I interesting production figures have been announced by Automotive News. Chrysler Corporation's total 1955 output was 412,533 compared with 182,641 far' the same period last year. Ford's output this year totaled 556,712. Last year, for the same three months, the total was 463,229. General Motor's first quarter to tal was 1,044,398. In 1954 it was 706,319. American Motors total for this first quarter was 49,002: last year it was 26,761. Kaiser's total was 4.345. A year ago at the end of this period it was 5,278. . Studebaker Packard's first quarter total for this year was 62, 518; last year it was 36,772. Total cars for the first quarter of 1955 was 2,129,508. Last ' year the first qurter ended with a total of 1,426,000 oars produced. Niw Commercial Lino Chrysler's new commercial ve hiclesthe C-3 Series of Dodge Job-Rated trucks are powered with seven engines with 12 differ ent horsepower ratings. The new trucks, with a wide choice of 6-cylinder and V-8 en gines ranging from 103 to 202 horsepower, will meet approximat ely 98 per cent of ail hauling needs, company spokesmen say. Oregon Drivers' Convictions Up Traffic violations brought court convictions to 11,841 Oregon driv ers last month, Secretary of State Newbry has reported. This is an increase of approxi mately 1,000 over the number re ported in March of 1954, Newbry said. Courts trying traffic cases are required uy law to report all con victions to the department for en tering In the driving records of the individuals concerned. Drunk driving counts brought suspended licenses to 267 drivers while another 102 drew additional suspension periods for driving on a previously suspended or revoked permit. Other serious offenses such as reckless driving and hit-and- run cost the licenses of 133 more. Thirty-four licenses were sus pended because of their holders' poor accident or conviction rec ords, the secretary said AT SAN DIEGO Glenn Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hanson, Elgarose, has returned to San Diego, Calif., following a two-week leave. He has completed nine weeks of basic training at the U.S. Naval training school there and will be stationed aboard the repair ship USS Ajax. Hanson, a fireman apprentice, machinists mate, is a grad uate of Roseburg High School in the class of 1953. ON FURLOUGH A 3c Charles Merrill, son of Mrs. Bernice Merrill, 1002 Garden Valley Road is home on a 15 day furlough. Merrill was re cently named honor student in his class ot the technical school for aircraft mechanics ot Sheppard AFB, Texas. He received a letter of recommen dation upon his graduation from the commanding general. (g? mm Welfare Patient Hoards $4,420 ALBANY. Ore. W The Linn County public welfare administra tor has reported that a -vear-old welfare recipient hoarded $4,420 in I casn. Mrs. Lucille McBridc, the wel fare official, said the man appar ently had no other income and that he probably saved the money from the $6,742 he has'received in wel fare payments in the past 12 years. That would mean he had spent only $2,322 since 1943. The hoarding came to light when the welfare commission moved the man to a boarding house because he no longer was competent to care for himself. Some $900 in bills was found crammed in his pockets when he was undressed for a bath. The wel fare commission was notified and a search made of the quarters he formerly occupied. More than 53, 500 was hiden there in $5, $10 and $20 bills. Mrs. XrcBride said the money had been deposited In a bank. It will be used to care for him until his death and anything left will be turned over to the state. Camas Valley Woman Injured In Car Mishap Br MRS. WM. CUNNINGHAM Mrs. George Millrtt, who was injured in an automobile accident Saturday in Roseburg, has re-entered Douglas Community Hospi tal for further treatment. X-rays revealed she is suffering from a skull fracture not at first appar ent. She also received knee injur ies and a sash m hor forehead. Her son, who was a passenger in the car., was not injured, but a daughter, Laura, received a leg cut. Mrs. Stanley Dancer and son, karry. returned Wednesday to her home in Mrdford after a two-week visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dahl. While here Mrs. Dancer and her mother spent Eas ter with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Fm stad, in Oakridge.
