Salesman Dies In Auto Crash LA GRANDE (A A Walla Walla salesman died in a hospital here early Wednesday from injur ies suffered In a spectacular high way accident. John Stamules Armas, Jr., 27, was being chased by a patrolman when he lost control of his speeding car on a curve entering La Grande. The vehicle skidded 258 feet oft the highway, sheared off a power pole and uien crasned into a tree. Armas - is survived in Walla Walla by the widow, a three-year-old daughter and his parents. Leik WUlett, Wallowa, died late Tuesday night. He was injured Sunday when his car dollidjel near Wallowa with one dnven by Charles Brooks, Wallowa. Willett's widow remained in critical condi tion Wednesday. Brooks suffered less serious injuries and was re leased from the hospital Tuesday. Portland Child Suffers Serious Burnt Tuesday PORTLAND Ml Reuse Wood, 3, suffered serious burns Tuesday when she set her clothing ablaze with s cigarette lighter. Her mother, Mrs. Nadine Wood, heard the child screaming and rushed to her aid. The mother suf fered burns to her hands in an unsuccessful effort to beat out the flames. When that failed, Mrs. Wood began rolling the cMM on a bed to smother the fire, and the bed caught fire. Finally Mrs, Wood succeeded in putting out the blaz ing cwtning. The child's father is Air Force Capt. Oren Wood, stationed at Moses Lake, Wash. Hospital attendants said the child showed some improvement Wednesday and was "fairly good.
