The driver who last October passed with insufficient clearance on a curve and killed one person; the driver who was operating on the wrong side of the road because of inattention and killed two peo ple; and the driver who combined excessive speed and driving on the wrong side of the road one November night to kill three peo ple and seriously injure four oth ers. Host suspensions, Newbry said, involve drivers convicted in court of serious traffic violations and others with records of reseated accidents and convictions for va rious traffic offense. O. .FOX Glendale city officials who nom inated candidates for the offices of city recorden, treasurer, and three city commissioners at a meeting Sept. 27, did not nominate a mayor, believing that the pres ent mayor, Laoy Sparks, would bold office for another two years. On Monday of this week, offici als re-checked city rulings and dis covered that the mayor's office ac tually will be vacant at the end ol the current term two years in stead of four years as they as sumed. Election ballots just re ceived from the printers will have to be changed or replaced as a result of the oversight. Lacy Sparks, Incumbent, is re ported not willing to run again, Accused Mayor Stripped Of All City Powers ERIE, Pa. Democratic May or Thomas W. Flatley, charged with accepting bribes from a gam bling syndicate that netted 20 mil lion dollars a year, has been strip ped of his powers. The City Council, made up of Democrats, acted yesterday. Fending final disposition of the charges, Flatley will continue on the city payroll, however. However, the Proffitt family has moved into the. Bart Hicks place on Sether Avenue and he is now eligible for office. Gen. De Castries Arrives Unexpectedly In France PARIS W Brig. Gen. Christian de Castries, commander of the fallen Indochinese fortress of Dien Bien Phu, arrived unexpectedly in France Tuesday for his second "unofficial" visit home since be ing freed from Communist cap tivity. De Castries has never received the official returning welcome as leader of the men who fought the last major battle in Indochina. De Castries said he would be in Paris for one week for consulta tions with various officials. He added that his work in Indochina was "far from completed."
