July 21, 1954 The Nsws-Rsvl.w, Roieburg, On. t Army Announces Medal Of Honor For Lieutenant WASHINGTON UK The Army announced Saturday award of the Medal of Honor to 1st Lt. Ben jamin F. Wilson for "sustained valor and intrepid actions." The 33-year-old soldier from Vashon, Wash., ras a master sergeant on June 5, 1951, when his platoon attacked North Korean Reds in fortifications near Hwach-'on-Myon. Wounded twice, he io-ji'.' on with rifle, grenades and finally a shovel. Wilson and the men with him killed at least 45 Reds in bit ter, hand-to-hand fighting. Even after his second painful but not serious wound he refused to leave a position from which he was covering withdrawal of his men until all had reached safety. Four days later- he performed an almost identical series of ex ploits which won him another dec oration second only to the Medal of Honor the Distinguished Service Cross. . He survived both hard-fought battles, was promoted to officer rank and now is stationed at Red stone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. He is the 72nd Army man to receive the nation's highest mili tary award for action in the Ko rean War. The time and place of the presentation will be announced later. Wilson and his wife, Mrs. Marv D. Wilson, and a stepson, live at Restone Arsenal, Huntsville. Two, sons by a former marriage live with their mother in Memphis, Tenn. For the first time it empowers the Coast Guard to act against merchant seamen convicted, of narcotics violations on shore. WiHiout that authority "no torious narcotic felons and ad dicts" could continue sailing - on U.S. vessels to foreign ports where drugs were, easy to get, the Coast uuara sam. The new law enables the Coast Guard to deny or revoke a sea man's document within 10 years of a narcotics conviction.
