Some Wildlife
WASHINGTON 11 The Inter

possibility ot doing away with
some federal wildlife refuges and
opening the fringes of others to
hunting.
The department also is reviewing
the size and operating efficiency
the fleet of seagoing vessels and
airplanes assignee io ine risn ana
Wildlife Service, and is moving to
correct other unsatisfactory condi
tions within that agency.
The steps are in line with recom
mendations of a special five-man
team, appointed by Secretary of
the Interior McKay, which made
a six-week, 11,000-mile survey of

to put into tffect the other recom

These include:
1. Reappraisals of "controver
sial" wildlife refuges, especially
those maintained for resident game
species not in dinger of extinc
tion, and .where the areas involved
are considerably greater than
needed for adequate conservation.
2. Giving consideration to open
ing suitable strips within certain
refuge boundaries, to controlled
public shooting, "provided that
this will not materially reduce the
effectiveness as a waterfowl
refuge."
3. Assignment of responsibility to
appropriate regional officers for
schedulingxind use of airplanes
and seagoing vessels since these
"may prove to be a most serious
extravagance." v
4. A "more aggressive and com

combat botulism, which has killed
hundreds of thousands of ducks in

Psychologist Tells How

LOS ANGELES I A UCLA

Experience has shown that ac

Dr. David Boder savs. He has
studied the impact of disaster on

suggesiea:
Plan specific duties for each
member of the family, Dad can
load the car, for example, while
Mother looks after the food, older
brothers and sisters can care for
the younger children.
Decide in advance on a familiar
rendezvous in case family mem
