I - . o w7 ,11 r mSan Bride -At cc juAan I VloUchenl arqe Largest wedding of the year took place at eight o'clock the evening of Aug. 23 at the First Presbyter ian Church, when Susan Jean Mot schenbacher, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs- J. P. Motschenbacher, of Roscburg, became the bride of Donald Knoss Gerretsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will H. Gerretsen, of this city. Four-hundred and fifty guests attended the ceremony, which was performed by Dr. Mor ris H. Roach. A huge floor candle encircled with white dahlias and flanked by floor baskets of white gladioli, dahlias and babys breath and can delabra holding tall white candles formed the setting for the cere mony. The candles were lighted by the ushers. Mrs. Homer W. Grow played the traditional wedding marches and accompanied Miss Harriet Booth, who sang, "At Dawning," and "I Love Thee." Given in marriage by her tather, the bride was beautiful in a gown of white nylon net and Chantilly lace. Her can was fashioned of lily of the valley and her finger tip veil was ot nyion net. ine cap headdress was designed by Mrs. George Graham, who also loan ed the bride a handmade handker chief carried previously by 14 brides- She carried a bouquet of white carnations centered with a white orchid. Miss Janice Plummer of Rose burg was maid of honor and wore a ballerina length gown of deep purple taffeta with a white nei overskirt. Mrs. Archie Rutter, Roscburg: Miss Lenora Jan Peter son, Portland, and Miss Mary Anne McKy, Eugene, the latter two sorority sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids. They wore identical gowns in orchid designed to match the maid of honor's. They carried nosegay bouquets of white carnations. Sally Elliott, Klamath Falls, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a floor-length gown of white satin trimmed with pur ple net and carried a basket of Esther Reed daisies. Gordon H. Gerretsen, Portland, was best man for his brother and Rirhird Rice. Portland, and Dale Lander and Pat Sullivan, the lat ter three fraternity brothers of the bridegroom, were ushers. They wore dark suits with lily of the valley boutonnieres. The bride's mother wore a floor length gown of pale blue with a white feather hat and white ac cessories. Her corsage was of gar-i denias. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue crepe floor-lengtn dress with a pink hat and pink accessories. Her corsagt was of pink carnations. A reception followed in the beau tiful gardens at the home of .the bride's parents, 1038 .Winchester street tk jjirdcr. ' lighted with large lights. The brides,. iablej.tl2cata.ted. alU-Jn white, was centeied with a tiered cake decorated with lilies of the valley and circled with white tu berous begonias. Mrs. A. B. Taylor and Mrs. Merle Muncy had charge of the table decorations and Mrs. A. J. Ellison and Mrs. George Caskey had charge of the church decor ations. The large bouquets of glad ioli used about the garden were from the gardens of Mrs. George Wharton. Candid pictures were taken at the reception by the bride's brother, Elliott Motschen bacher. , Mrs.. H- H. Turner and Mrs. Earl C. Plummer cut tha wedding cake. Mrs. Bruce Elliott and Mrs. E. G. Randolph served the punch and Mrs. Robert Morlcy and Mrs. David Lee were in charge of the serving. Follow'ng a honeymoon to points of interest in Canada, Mr- and Mrs. Gerretsen will be at home to their friends at 60 E. Lane Street, Roseburg. Both the bride and bridegroom were graduated from Roseburg High School. The bride attended Oregon State College and is a member ot Gamma Phi Beta Sor ority. The table was decorated in Su san's sorority colors of mode and brown with pink carnations and tall tapers for a centerpiece. Tha dinner was served buffet style. MISS WANDA WAGLER HONORED AT BRIDAL SHOWER PARTY FRIDAY One of the most charming events of the early fall was the bridal shower given in honor of Miss Wan da Wagler of Brockway, Friday evening, Aug. 29, in the DiUard Methodist Church annex. Mrs. Vir gil Post, Mrs. Ronald Burgess and Miss Sylvia Hill were hostesses assisted by other friends. Miss Wagler, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Wagler, of Brockway is to become the bride of Wesley Fin nell of Tillamook Sunday, Sept. 14, at the DiUard church. The church annex was beautifully dec orated with asters and gladioli. Several entertaining games were paved with Miss Buclah Johnson winning on.a of the prizes- Many lovely gifts were presented to the bride-elect who has been active in the DiUard Methodist Youth Fel lowship group. Miss Eleanore, of Roseburg left this week for Eureka and Gerbersville, Calif., to attend to business, after which the latter went on to San Francisco for a few days. In Eur eka, she took the State Depart ment examinations to quality for further examination as a Foreign Service Officer. Miss Micelli Is currently employed as a stenog rapher by Horn and Slocum, at- torneya in Roseburg. r ! A) Ill REASON TO CELEBRATE A double anniversary was the reason for much happiness on the part of the above four, from left, Charles W. Fox, Mrs. Fox, Mrs. A. N. Orcutt and Attorney A. N. Orcutt. Sept. 3, was the date of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fox and the fiftieth wedding anniversary of the Orcutts Mrs. Fox, nee Vivian Orcutt, is tht younger daughter of the Orcutts. A dinner party was held at the Fox home on NW Albe marle Terrace in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Fox celebrated also a second party given by them for friends the following Saturday evening ot the Waverley Country Club. Attorney and Mrs. Orcutt have been prominent residents of Rose burg since the fall of 1903. Mrs. Orcutt was formerly Dora Page, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. J. Page of Oakland, Ore. Mr. Orcutt is the son of J. H. Orcutt. president of the state normal school at Drain, and Mrs. Orcutt. He was born in Iowa and while his father was president of the normal school, he came west to take a teaching position at the school. He taught there two years. Mr. and Mrs. Orcutt were mar MR. BUTTLER HONORED AT FAREWELL PARTY SATURDAY NIGHT A "going away" party was giv en Saturday evening at the home of Mr- and Mrs. Gene Lesher in Brockway, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. James Buttler and family. The Buttler family have recently sold their residence in Winston and are moving to Ventura, Calif. Gathering at eight o'clock, the group spent several social hours visiting and playing games. Fare well gifts were presented to the Buttlers. The maid of honor was dressed in a green lace dress and wore a black velvet hat. Her bouquet was a nosegay of a- dozen pink rosebuds. The bride's beautiful gown was of roy al blue lace. Her hat was of navy velvet, and she carried a dozen white rosebuds in a nosegay. The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue dress and hat, com plemented with a corsage of white rosebuds. The new Mrs. Metzler attended schools at Kent State University 1 in Kent, 0 and is now employed s by 'lie Oregon Siate College Fx tension Service as county home 1 extension agent. They resided one year at Drain and then moved to Roseburg. For 30 years, they re sided at the corner of Chadwick and East Cass Streets, after which they, purchased the residence at 929 N. Jackson Street. After com ing to Roseburg, Mr. Orcutt was admitted to the State Bar Asso ciation and is still a practising attorney in this city. The Orcutts have two daughters, Mrs. Orrin Fisher, who with her husband, went to Portland for the celebration, and Mrs. Charles Fox. and Mrs- Harvey Dukes, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Albertus and the honor ed guests, Mr. and Mrs. James Buttler and daughters, Ramona and Shirley, and the host and host ess, Mr. and Mrs. Lesher and chil dren, Jean. VISITOR RETURNS Mrs. David Lampard, who has been visiting a friend in San Fran cisco for several days, returned to Roseburg Wednesday to resume her visit at the J. F. DiUard home. Mrs. Lampard, a resident of To kyo, is accompanying the Dillards' daughter, Mrs. Robert Snoddy, al so of Tokyo, on a visit here.
