GARDEN DEPARTMENT HAS INTERESTING MEETING TUESDAY - The Garden Department of the Roseburg Woman's Club met at a delightful one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon Tuesday at the home of, Mrs. Otho Gojmell with Mrs. If. L. Whipple, Mrs. J. W. Mess, Mrs. Kenneth Ford and Mrs. Bruce C. Elliott hostesses. "Covers were placed for 25 mem bers and two new members, Mrs. Paul Jenkins and Mrs. V. T. Jack con. ""Mrs. Earl Bleile was program chairman of the topic "Things To Do In Your Garden." Poems were read by Mrs. George E. Houck. Ms. Paul Jenkins gave an inten sely and enjoyable talk on the per ennial border. The Oct. 14 meeting place will be announced later. Mrs. Harry F. Hatfield will be program chair man on the topic, "Bulb Gardens." PINK AND BLUE SHOWER olVEN MRS. C. YUNDT ' Mrs. C. P. Clubs which will form this council in clude: Florence, Coquille, Coos Bay, Winston-Dillard and Rose burg. Those attending 'the Sunday meeting were: Mrs. M. Cip, Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. D. B. The rooms and the birthday cake were gaily decorated in the circus motif. Ice cream clowns with jaunty cone hats were serv ed with the cake. Each child was presented with a balloon. Gifts were received from Judy Christendon, Barbara Ann Meser vy, Detroit, Mich., Teresa and Kevin Stone, Nancy Walker, Deb by Hopkins, Carol Coomes, Dan ny Williams, Sandra, Ray and Zelpha Smith, David LeRoy and Victor Vian, Carol Williams and Kathy Parsons. Mrs. Ben Blythe assisted the hostess during the aft ernoon. sr. fi' r.. 4 4 1 l BPW HOLD FIRST MEET ft OF SEASON MONDAY EVB V AT WOMAN'S CLUBHOUSE The Business and Professional Women's Club held the first fall meeting Monday evening at the Woman's Club building. The pres ident, Priscilla Clarcnbach, was in charge and outlined the work for the coming year. After the usual business session, the meet ing was turned over to the pro gram ro-ordinator, Edith Landis. It is the aim of the club to have the chairmen of the committees put on the program. , In the absence of Edna Keeling, membership chairman, V. Vivian Logsdon, took charge. She im pressed upon the group the im portance of the "golden circle" of which the club Is the center. The first on the program was a pan tomime skit directed by Eliza beth Gilchrist, career and oppor tunity chairman. The idea was portrayed as the "Throe Steps To Success." The first step was pre paredness, exercised by Myrtle Baker, The second step, "Exper ience in Selling and Marketing,' was given by Minnie Clark and Alta Simonson. - The third stop was "Step Up to the Future" and emphasized the use of the library as the place to gain knowledge. This was performed by Florence Kent and Minnie Clark. Two violin solos, "Pale Hands I Love" and "A Little Bit of Heav en", were beautifully played by Miss Virginia Young. Priscilla Clarenbach delivered an instruc tive talk on "Health Unlimited." 1 On public affairs, Valyn Mal stead, chairman, gave an instruc tive talk on women voters, stat ing that failure to use the ballot is equal to passive submersive ness. She also called attention to the absentee ballot. Florence Snedaker, internation al relations chairman, talked on the work women are doing in for eign countries, with the dealing of human rights and the Orien tal scholarship fund. An outline of BPW week was given by Mildred Herman. The outstanding evening will be Mon day, when Mrs. Taylor of Port land will talk at a banquet. MISS JENNIE SWANSON EXCHANGES WEDDING VOWS WITH HUBERT COLLIER Miss Jennie Lynn 1 Swanson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Swanson of Green, exchanged marriage vows with Hubert Col lier of Winston at a lovely eve ning wedding Sunday, Aug. 31 in the Green Community Church Rev. Ralph F. Knauf performed the ImDrcssive double ring cere mony in the presence of close rel atives and friends. The bride was lovely in a blue nylon lace gown, wearing a white orchid corsage, hne carried a white Bible. The matron of hon or was Mrs. Leonard Swanson and the best man was Leonard Swanson, brother of the bride. The church was beautifully dec orated with large baskets of blue and white gladioli and chrysan themums. The traditional wedding march es were Dlaved. The reception followed the cere mony at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Swanson in Green. The bridal ta ble was lace covered and graced with a lovely arrangment of gladioli and zinnias. Mrs. Harold Thomas, aunt of the bride served the three-tiered wedding cake which was topped with the bride and bridegroom motif and large silver wedding bells. Mrs. Lee Thomas and Mrs. Harry Bratsch assisted with serving the coffee. DAVID LEE. ROSEBURG PNG CLUB HAS RECENT PICNIC The Roseburg Past Noble Grand's Club held a picnic at Umpqua Park recently. At this time, the 30th anniversary of the club was celebrated. A beautifully decorat ed cake graced the center of the table. Names of the charter mem bers were on the cake. During the business meeting which followed, the president, Danys Beach, read the first min utes of the club, and presented lovely gifts to the charter mem bers. JaheA fic One of the loveliest weddings of the season took place when Miss Darlene Ann McAllister became the bride of Frank Andrew Olson on Aug. 24 at the First Presby terian Church of Roseburg. Rev. Morris Roach officiated at the dou ble ring ceremony in the presence of ISO' relatives and friends. The church was decorated with pink and white gladioli. Bud Dil lon, close friend of the bridegroom, sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Because." Attendants included the matron of honor, Mrs. Jacky Rison. sister of the bride from Brownsville: Norcen Allen, brides maid, Eugene; candle lighters, Dorine Strickling and Nancy Sand ers, flower girl, Valerie Desbiens; ring bearer, Robbie Hallcraft; best man. Gladioli and tall matching tapers centered the lace-covered dining table, while matching candles decorated the buffet. The bride's mother wore a mix ed pink and grey suit with blue accessories and the bridegroom's mother wore a blue lace dress with white accessories. Out of town guests included Don Pearson, USN; Ron Ashbacker, Prineville; Bud Dillen, Klamath Falls; Mrs. Karion Dow, Klamath Falls; Mrs. Pearl Nygrcn, Chiloquin; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barrows. The new Mrs. Olson was former ly employed at Calkins Finance Company as a secretary. Mr. Ol son was graduated from Roseburg High School and is now a sopho more at Oregon State College at Corvnllis. He has been employed by Standard Oil of California. for traveling the bride wore a baby blue suit with black acces-. sories.
