f Armed Forces Day Celebrated Z WASHINGTON (-The nation's military power is on parade throughout the land Saturday in celebration of . the third annual Armed Forces Day. The display of America's grow ing might has been limited, how "ever, to men, machines and craft -that can move on the ground or anchor In harbors. All aircraft .have been grounded by the oli strike. For most citizens the day means . a visit to one of 430 military posts, Btations, camps or bases which have declared open house, or to 3,000 National Guard armories which have prepared military dis plays and exhibits. Other thousands are hearing several hundred speeches being de livered by top civilian and military leaders. Angler Ignores Blast Warning, Struck By Rock A stubborn fisherman, who re portedly ignored warnings that blasting on a new section of the North Umpqua Highway was to take place, was struck on the bark by a ricocheting rock, recently, according to reports received by Mrs. Arthur M. Shop. 615 North Jackson The man reportedly was rushed to a local hospital but suffered on ly a bruised back and shock. According to information given Mrs. Selby, Funderburk Construc tion Co. started heavy blasting operations on the rock formation place, to clear the road for relo cation of the North Umpqua High way. . The man fishing downstream was requs id by an employee to move because of the danger. When he failed to respond, firing of dyn amite charges were held off until the foreman could go down to further warn him, but it was said he still refused to move. The charge was set off and a large rock struck anothre rock and ricocheted, striking the man.
