The uproar Sunday came from a "coon-on-a-log" contest a contro versial sport which the socitty versial sport which the society calls vicious and inhumane. George R. Bates, society presi dent, said he would seek a court injunction to prevent any similar competitions in the future. The contest was for the "south ern chanplonshlp." Forty hounds were entered. About 500 spectators attended. It works like this: The coon, with a handler nearby holding a tether, is placed on a log floating about 50 feet from the bank. The eager hound is sent to drag him off.
