Eisenhower Will Head West Europe Defense LONDON l.vi Th 11 Atlantic pact nations have a compromise plan for getting GERMAN TKOOPS into Western Europe's defense which may be acceptable to the wary French but the Germans said today it was "unacceptable." Delegates to the Atlantic pact council hope to ultimately reach agreement on a Dutch-proposed Plan which diplomatic informants said calls for the appointment of a civilian high commissionei to re cruit German soldiers and inte grate them into the combined North Atlantic treaty organization army in Europe. Premier Ren Pleven called for a meeting of the French cabinet in Pans today to discuss the plan and to instruct the French Atlantic pact delegate, Herve Alphand. Sources close to the cabinet pre dicted th French would approve the plan. At the same time a British In formant said Gen. Dwight D. Eisen hower is expected to be named supreme commander of the North Atlantic pact armies within 72 hours. He added that Eisenhower probably will come to Europe with in days to take charge. His formal appointment has been delayed by differences between France and the ol her 11 pact members on the question of using German troops. The plan which may be approved looks to Germany to contribute about one - fifth of the land forces needed for the defense of Western Europe perhapa as many as 150, 000 men as the eventual target. A 41-year-old farmer, accused of drag ging his wife to death behind an automobile, was acquitted of mur der last night by jury of north Georgia farmers. Sheriff J. M. Chiang told specially sum moneti news conference he stood by his earlier offer to send troops to Korea, declaring "if the com mander in chief of the U.N. Forces is given full authority in strategy and this calls for our military sup port, we shall certainly give it." Chiang declared that any major decision at the Truman Attlefc conference would have to be trans lated into action through the United Naions. "Any major decision of the United Nations will be an American responsibility " he added. "The people and govern ment of the United Slates have never surrendered to brute force or open aggression. (.VI A baby born with two heads, four armsa nd two legs died Saturday in Youngstown Southside hospital. The child, with characteristics of Siamese twins, lived less than 20 hours and had .been fed twice. Doctors had held little hope for survival. Dr. B. B.
