INTERESTING MEETING HELD BY STUDY CLUB YONCALLA Hostess to the Yoncalla Women's Study Club. Thursday afternon was Mrs. Stacy Adams, who graciously en tertained at the city hall. A long linen covered table was beauti fully decorated with an artislic bowl of floating camollas with bouquets of forsythla and flow ering quince formed the room de corations. Members of the club provided a delicious potluck din ner. Mrs. Edgar Richards, chap lain chose the 90th Psalm for tie votionals. Roll call was responded to with current events. Mrs. Harvey Cockram read a fascinating story of a trip to Alaska via the Alcan highway. An instructive excerpt on the way our national Income is com puted was given by Mrs. Fred Reeves. Mrs. Don Brace, who has been an active club member was pre sented a present. The entire group regret that Mrs. Brace is soon to make her home In Ash land, Ore. Mrs. Fred Merk lead an inter esting discussion on new books in the local library. The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. Harvey Coek eram, Thursday, April 15th, Mrs. Kldeke and Mrs. Rychard will have charge of the program. Safety Council Slates Meeting for Tonight Representatives from various civic groups and others interested in safety measures for the city are urged to be present for the initial meeting of the Safety Council for Roseburg and Doug las County tonight at 8 o'clock, in the office of Superintendent of Schools Paul Elliott, announces Mavis Hasbargen, chairman of the Business and Professional Woman's Club, sponsors of the project. Purpose of the first meeting will be to establish a constitution by which the council will be gov erned and to outline a preliminary program. Expected to be present to aid in the discussion are James R. Banks, director of traffic safety division, Salem; Frank Lands burg, Portland traffic safety com mission chairman, and the execu tive assistant to Bob Glenn, chair man of Governor Hall's traffic safety council. Gas Tax Hike Favored For Highway Program SALEM, Ore., April 8 (PI A two-cent increase in the state's five-cent gasoline tax has been favored as the best means of financing a 10-year-highway de velopment program in Oregon, State Rep. Ralph T. Moore, Coos Bay, said yesterday. Moore is chairman of a legis lative interim committee on high ways which has been conducting hearings over the state. "We have heard two proposals made at our hearings, Moore said, "one advocating increase in the gas tax. and the other dou bling the $5 annual automobile license fee. At some meetings, it was suggested that both plans be used.
