Horan (RYVash) said yes terday that if Americans, who eat more per capita than any other peoples, will voluntarily re duce food consumption they can do much to combat inflation. "If Americans will refrain from bidding up prices on short age commodities, from exacting speculative profits out of criti cal goods, from using scarce ma terials for non-essential purposes if they will do these things voluntarily, we can do the Job with a minimum of government controls and still not suffer a severe disclocation of our do mestic economy. CP) The federal wage-hour administrator has ruled that under the new portal pay act workers still may collect for "any work of conse- ?ucnee performed by an employee or an employer, no matter when the work is pei formed." S. Hall, prin cipal. In addition the education com mittee of the Kosebui g Chamber of Commerce paid the school an official visit. Members of the committee are I'aul Keith, Kay Simms, Dave MK'arroll, Ormand Keldcamp, Eail Klegel, and E. S. Hall. The committee, together with Harold Hkkerson, secretary or the chamber, spent consider able time visiting the classrooms and inspecting the two buildings housing the Hose School pupils. The committee and I'aul S. El liott, superintendent of schools, were guests of Mr. Hall at lunch served by the school cafeteria. Other special visitors were Mrs. Fred Hargls, Mis. J. M. Boyles. Mrs. Clifford Smith, Mrs. Alvin Bruden, Mrs. Sam Warg, and Mrs. I. M. Dunn, a committee from the Parent-Teachers Asso ciations of th" City of Roseburg. The two committees were es pecially interested In making a survey of the classrooms, build ings, and the playgrounds to de termine what equipment, repairs, and additions were necessary to bring the school up to the level of the requirements for stand ardization as outlined by the State Department of Education. Lumber Industry Unhurt By Canada Restrictions PORTLAND, Nov. 21. (.TV Lumber sources here said yester day that Canada's restriction on Imports resulting in some lum ber order cancellations here would have no appreciable effect on the lumber industry. One wholesaler said a 2,500, 000 board-foot order had been canceled but it could be placed elsewhere reafllly.
