To Beat Inflation
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20.OVI
Rrp. Horan (RYVash) said yes

eat more per capita than any
other peoples, will voluntarily re

do much to combat inflation.
"If Americans will refrain
from bidding up prices on short
age commodities, from exacting
speculative profits out of criti

if they will do these things
voluntarily, we can do the Job
with a minimum of government
controls and still not suffer a
severe disclocation of our do

"If Americans fail to fare up
to these tests we may witness
in our time the end of economy
and society based on litM-rty, in

final conclusion and should not

Agricultural production may be
approaching a crisis, he said,

Federal Ruling Favors
New Portal Pay Act
WASHINGTON. CP) The
federal wage-hour administrator
has ruled that under the new
portal pay act workers still may
collect for "any work of conse-
?ucnee performed by an employee
or an employer, no matter when
the work is pei formed."
Administrator William It. Mc
Comb issued an Interpretation of
the art setting forth that it only
relieves employers of liability for
non-productive time "for which

Education Week
Draws Visitors
To Rose School
Two hundred twenty-five par
ents visited in the classrooms of
Rose School during the past
school month, most of them last
week during "American Educa
tion Week," tald E. S. Hall, prin
cipal. In addition the education com
mittee of the Kosebui g Chamber
of Commerce paid the school an
official visit. Members of the
committee are I'aul Keith, Kay
Simms, Dave MK'arroll, Ormand
Keldcamp, Eail Klegel, and E. S.
Hall. The committee, together
with Harold Hkkerson, secretary
or the chamber, spent consider
able time visiting the classrooms
and inspecting the two buildings
housing the Hose School pupils.
The committee and I'aul S. El
liott, superintendent of schools,
were guests of Mr. Hall at lunch
served by the school cafeteria.
Other special visitors were Mrs.
Fred Hargls, Mis. J. M. Boyles.
Mrs. Clifford Smith, Mrs. Alvin
Bruden, Mrs. Sam Warg, and
Mrs. I. M. Dunn, a committee
from the Parent-Teachers Asso
ciations of th" City of Roseburg.
The two committees were es
pecially interested In making a
survey of the classrooms, build
ings, and the playgrounds to de
termine what equipment, repairs,
and additions were necessary to
bring the school up to the level
of the requirements for stand
ardization as outlined by the
State Department of Education.
Lumber Industry Unhurt
By Canada Restrictions
PORTLAND, Nov. 21. (.TV
Lumber sources here said yester
day that Canada's restriction on
Imports resulting in some lum
ber order cancellations here
would have no appreciable effect
on the lumber industry.
One wholesaler said a 2,500,
000 board-foot order had been
canceled but it could be placed
elsewhere reafllly. '
Wset Coast Lumbermen's Asso
ciation officials were not avail
able for comment, but trade
.sources pointed out that Canada
as a lumber producing country
has little need for this region's
product and accordingly imports
little.
