Sheldon 3 mother, Mrs. W. E. Hasemeier. While In Se attle. Mr. Sheldon suffered u badly infected right hand and was confined to bed for a week. Meeting Postponed The home demonstration meeting on the topic, "Conserve You" planned for Thursday, April 24, at the Evergreen Grange hall, has been postponed to a date to be fixed later. Athletic Association to Meet The Roseburg Women's Athletic Association will meet Tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock at the Jun ior High School gym. All wo men interested in athletics are invited. Knight returned to their home on West First street Saturday, following a week's stay in Seattle with their son ln 'aw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. (Bud) Watson. En route north, they stopped over In Port land for a short visit with their son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Houser, and family, and with their son and daughter-in-law. Stephens Phon 3 S3 iihWUA District Oratory Finals Scheduled Southwestern Oregon district finals of the Knights of Pythias' national student public speaking contest will be held tonight at 8 o'clock at the Roseburg lodge hall at 114 N. Rose street. The gen eral public Is invited to attend. Semi-finalist speakers, repre senting high schools of Roseburg, Oakland and Bandon, will express their views on "Juvenile Delin quency its Cause and Cure." Jontestants include Marjorie Zeller and Donna Clough, Rose )urg; Lola Jean Babcock and Ted Vilde, Oakland, and two students if Bandon. Winner of tonight's district contest will compete In the state finals at Portland, May 3, with the state winner entering North western competition in Spokane for qualifying position in the na ional finals, where four scholar ships are to be offered, totaling $750, $500, $300 and $200, res pec :ively. All expenses of the contest and contestants are sponsored by the Knights of Pythias. In charge of tonight's speaking contest are Bob Harvie, John Hess and Thomas Hartfiel of Roseburg's Alpha Lodge, No. 7. John T. Hart Funeral Dated at Canyonvllle Graveside services for John T. Hart, 74, who died In Roseburg, April 17, will be held In the Ma sonic Cemeterv at Canvonville, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr. Hart was born on uct. zh, 1872. in Kentucky and had made his home at Canyonvllle for the ast 25 years. Surviving are three sisters and l brother: Annie Wood and Kate Southworth. of Virginia: Martha Brown, Highland, Calif., and Benl. F. Hart, Gazley Road, Myr tle Creek. Arrangements are In charge of the Long and Orr Mortuarv. Jerry G. Roane, Infant, Dies at Myrtle Creek Funeral services were held this ifternoon at 2 o'clock for Jerry Urover Roane, Infant son of Mr. nd Mrs. John R. Roane of Myr tle Creek, at their home there. He was born April 13 in Myrtle Creek. Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Stanley and Thomas; me sister, Ann, all cf My;tle "reck; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. oJe Watts, and Zeb Roane, Prentiss, all of North Carolina. Interment was in the Odd Fel ows cemetery at Myrtle Creek, Aith the Roseburg Funeral Home in charge. Myrtle Creek Has Branch of WaU MYRTLE CREEK. Ore. A new organization of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union was effected recently, when Mrs. R. L. Turrell, one of the state lecturers of the organization, together with Mrs. Arthur Marsh, Doug las County president, met with a group of local women at the Christian Church. Officers of the newly formed union include Mrs. Jessie Hadley, president: Mrs. E. W. Powell, vice president; Mrs. Victoria Stuyempges, recording secretary; Mrs. Ethel May Week ly, treasurer, and Mrs. Ida Weaver, corresponding secretary. A very interesting set of Old Testament Bible slides was pre sented by Mrs. Turrell supple menting her lecture. The group has chosen the third Monday afternoon of each month as the permanent meeting date and everyone Interested in the tem perance movement is urged to meet with the group on April 21 at the Adventist Church. The meeting will convene promptly at 1 o'clock. Mrs. Marsh plana to meet with the group and conduct the service of installation of the new officers. Invitational Golf. Tournament Dated By Country Club Roseburg Country Club will of ficially onen its roster to take in 14 more new members, H was an nounced at the meeting of the board of directors last Friday evening. By vote of the directors, the club ruled that the member ship will remain open for a limit i?d period of time, or until 14 ap plicants have been passed upon and admitted ot membership. Golfers from all over Oregon are expected to participate In the Invitational Tournament. From 75 to 150 divoteers are expected in advance registration, and the tournev committee has selected key committees to make all advance preparation. An en tertainment night on Friday, May 30, and dance for the follow ing evening have already been tentatively planned by the enter tainment committee. Gene McElrov and his commit tee are anticipating good repre sentations from the neighboring clubs of Medford, Marshfield, Eu gene, Coquille and Cottage Grove, and a number of the state's top golfers from the Portland clubs.
