Mrs. Ben Phelps entertained the Sunshine club at the grange hall Thursday afternoon with fifteen present. The regular business meeting was held and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The financial report was also given by the secretary. Mrs. Esther Thorpe was wel comed into the club as a new member. JUNIOR. SENIOR CLASSES ENTERTAINED AT PARTY RIDDLE, March 13. Prof, and Mrs. Horace Lundbcrg entertain ed the Junior and senior classes of the Riddle high school at a lovely party at their home Friday evening. The guests enjoyed games for several hours. In the cootie game, Delton Pruner won the prize for high points and Gwen Howard consolation. In the paper hat contest, Jimmie Nich ols and Edna Rigsby were judged winners. Mrs. Lundberg served dainty refreshments at the close of the evening. Present were Mil dred Hamlin, Edna Rigsby, Covie Robbins. BRIDGE CLUB IS ENTERTAINED AT PORTER HOME Mrs. Frederick J. Porter enter tained her bridge club yesterday at an informal one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon at her home on Reservoir avenue. , Daffodils, spirea and forsythia were used about the rooms. Covers were placed for Mrs. J. F. Dillard, Miss Helen Casey, Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagen, Mrs. C. M. McDermott, guests, and Mrs. Frederick Chapman, Jr., Mrs. O. R. Hess, Mrs. Scott Wil liams, and Mrs. Frank Coon. Contract bridge was in play during the afternoon with Miss Casey winning the guest prize and Mrs. Hess winning the club prize. TOWNSEND CLUB HAS MEETING YONCALLA, Feb. 13. Mr. and Mrs. Noland entertained at the regular meting of the Yoncalla Townsend club at their homo Wednesday afternoon with the president, Jacob Wilson presid ing. Plans were made to have a fellowship meeting in the near future, with the Drain and Scotts Valley clubs as guests, Mrs. Ira Vian was1 appointed on the social and program committee, and N. Noland on the committee to see about getting a hall, etc. Little Reese Radabaugh, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Noland played two fine violin solos, and Keith Rada baugh sang. The next meeting will be held Tuesday afternoon, March 18th at the Fred Lee home. EDITH ELLA HILL HONORED ON BIRTHDAY AZALEA, March 12. Mrs. Frank Hill entertained Sunday af ternoon with a birthday party honoring her daughter, Edith Ella on her eleventh birthday an niversary. Brown with Mrs. Jack Suksdorf in charge of the music. .-' : Scott Lander Funeral to Ce Held Here Saturday The funeral of Scott Lander, who died at Bycrs station, south ern Douglas county, yesterday, will be held Saturday from the Roseburg Undertaking parlors, under auspices of the Elks lodge, of which Mr. Lander was a life member. Rev. Perry Smith of the Episcopal church will conduct the services. Interment will follow In Fair Oaks cemetery, near Suther lln, beside the grave of Mr. Lan der's father, William J. Lander, an early day forestry warden of Douglas county, who died in 1938. Born March 30, 1878, ' at Mar shall Creek, Pa., Mr. Lander came to Roseburg with his father In 1888. Previous to residing at Byers station, he was employed as a Southern Pacific trainman for 27 years. Surviving Mr. Lan der are his wife, also two sisters, Mrs. Mildred O'Connor and Mrs. Caroline Tyer, both of San Diego, Calif. VITAL STATISTICS BORN HOUNSHELL To Mr. and Mrs. E. M. The mechanical man Is a laugh maker, as was evidenced last night, but there is a $10 prize for the person who can make "It" laugh. He was born In Hawe, Nebras ka, Nov. 28, 1876, and was mar ried at Nemaha, Neb., 1 Nov. 23, 1899, to Miss Frankle A. Morris. He had been a resident of Drain for the past 27 years and had been employed for the past few years as a plumber for the H. A. Cool Hardware. company. ' ;:. He was a member of the W. O. W. lodge at Drain. Surviving are the widow; his mother, Mrs. Laura E. Coons, Drain; a daughter, Mrs. Mabei Belt Moser, Glcndale, Calif.; a son, Lloyd Coons, Drain, and four brothers, Glenn W. Coons, ' Anlauf; George W. Coons, Yon calla; Walter Coons, orvallls, and Vcrn Coons, Monroe. Funeral services will be held In the Christian church at Drain at 2 p. m. Sunday, Rev. C. F. Trim ble officiating. Interment will follow in the Scottsburg ceme tery. Arrangements are In charge of Stearns mortuary, Oakland. . ) I. Softball Season Plans . ,' Discussed at Lions Club ! Plans for the 1941 Softball sea son were tentatively discussed at the regular weekly meeting of the Lions club last night. The club has sponsored softball for several summer seasons and has decided to continue the activity again this year. It is believed at least six teams will participate.
