Ore., Jan. 13. Quicx action upon the pan of their pilots probably averted an ocean disaster last nluht when the Bteamer Welsh City, outbound, and the motorship Curriso collided below here in the. Columbia river.; -' The Welsh City has put In here for a survey and the Carrlao pro ceeded to Pot Hand tor repairs. The damage to the - Carrlso Included seven bent frames, scores ot rivet sheared and plates badly bent. The Welsh CItv veaterdav com pleted loading at Longvlfw, alter dropping down from Portland, and was on her way to Australia. The Carrlso was enroute to Portland from Honolulu, via Son Francisco. The fog was reported heavy and thtt vessels were almost together before the pilots learned of the Impending danger. The ships were quickly veered from their courses and when thoy met It wos'wilh a. glancing blow. .Both were shaken, from stem to stern. Life boats were lowered and preparations were made for a general vacating of the ships - After the first preparations the skippers ordered surveys and it was found that neither was badly damaged.
