Ha won -thti judge' decision in a thrilling fifteen-round battle with Jimmy Goodrich, also of Buffalo, last uight while spectators cheered In admir ation of the stamina and aklU of the man whom many regarded as a "has been." Kansas has had a hard climb In his quest for championship honors. Three times he met the great Ben ny Leonard and tried to wrest the championship and three times he failed. But when Leonard retired and through a series of elimination congests Goodrich was chosen in bis place last July, the rugged Kan sas again saw visions of winning the coveted title. Spectators witnessed bis rushing attack in the first halt of the bat tle with a feeling that he could not keep it up. But Kansas re fused to weaken. Although the young stalwart Goodrich opened up a furious attack in the closing rounds, the challenger refused to take the defenslTe. Repeatedly he slid his wicked lefts through Good rich's defense to open up big cuts about the eyes. Blinded by blood, Goodrich bat tered furiously at the body of the veteran challenger. Kansas fought back -and staved off defeat. The Judges, who deliberated un der the new round-by-round rule of the state boring commission, ruled that the challenger had won the most rounds.
