She was apparently laboring under a great mental strain, the sheriff said, and toid a story of having shot a man for an alleged insult. and of her departure from the state hospital In California. Mrs. Whitehouse told the- sher iff that as a result of domestic trouble a plot was "framed" on her whereby she was Insulted by an other man in an effort on the part of her husband to "get something on her" so he might procure a di vorce. She resented the Insult, slie told the sheriff, and shot and wounded the man stut by her husband, and was later arenied. She said she was tent to the state hospital for mental examination, and alter be ing kept there three weeks was re leased. Shu u;d that her husband met her and told her that she had , better leave the state, and he took her part way she declared. She came to Ruse burg, but determined if possible that she would return, : and asked the advice and help of j the sheriff. "In Btnghamton, New York, the dealer recently ran an advertise ment In the local newspaper Invit ing me owners of the Dodge Brothers cars sold In Binghamton during 1914 and 1915 to register their cars, if still In service, at his salesroom. Of 99 cars sold during those years, 62 were . registered. Most of the other owners had mov ed from the city. Rev. A. (). Dodge and wife are completing their preparations for their departure from Roseburg, and expect to leave next week for Il linois, Rev. Dodge having been called to the Springfield diocese, a much larger and more Important field than he haa held here. Rev. Dodge will be located at Carbondalo or Harrlshurg, HI., un til after the first of Hie year, and wilt then move to MclA'aiiHhnro, which will be in the center nf the places which he is to servo. Ho will have charge of churches in seven nearby places. He and hia wife have been in RoHeburg for the past two years, having charge of tlie mission In IV-seburg, Siitherlin and Riddle, and during their residence here they made many close friends who regret their departure from tho city. Rev. Dodge Is retiring also from the office of chaplain of L'mpqua post of the American Legion. He aaw service with the 14th regiment II. H. infantry, and now holds the rank of captain in the chaplHiu's reserve, being assigned to the mh army corps.
