The state legislature in special session today received a message from Gov. Hughes, recommending the passage of a direct primary law. June 20 Frank Barker, an ex-soldier, of Spokane was hanged today for the murder of Ira Messinger, nlso an ex-soldier of the Civil war, whom he killed ut Medical Lake in 1908, after a quar rel. Barker had to be awakened when the time for the execution ar rived, and laughed as he walked to the callows. The execution was faultless. J.
