MarshHeld Times, Dec. 6: Mis- Eu reka Wllllts, whose parents reside In Junction City, Ore., arrived In Marsh Held this week over the Drain stage line. She suddenly became demented while at the Blanco hotel and had to be taken to the state hospital for the Insane at Salem today. Miss Wllllts u about 30 years old and apparently well educated. She came here, as near as could be learn ed, upon the advice of a friend named Smith. The latter rft her at a hotel In this city. He was not known to the management of the hotel. When It was discovered that she was deranged, the hotel manager Insisted that he look after her, which he did. Finally, her parents were communicated with and they ordered her cared for at their expense. It Is stated and they will meet her In Portland. Whether the strenuous stage trip here caused a nervous breakdown or not, the physicians were unable to determine. She did not grow violent but suf fered from strange hallucinations. Mack, a street laborer, last week, as the result of the laUer's refusing to pay for a glass of near-beer he had ordered and drunk, died this morn ing. The bullet pierced his lungs. This was a day of guilty pleading on the part of a number of Eugene and Lane county violators of the local "option law. John Williams, who had been Indicted for selling beer, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty. The district attorney recommended that Judge Harris fmnoBe no jail sen tence. The Judge fined Williams $r,oo. Shell Coffman pleaded guilty to the same charge and was fined $150 and given 30 days In Jail. Pony Witter plead guilty and his sentence will be given Wednesday.
