All signs ! fJ-J nUQ pAp Cf Indicate that the state fair, whirl, is' Ul IHK3 VUld ViUId to open at the fairgrounds next Mon day, will be the greatest ever held, both In size and character of exhib its, and in number of people In at tendance.' This having been an ex ceptionally good agricultural season the exhibits of farm, garden and or chard products will be the best that Oregon has ever seen. ilecaue the fair has expanded to larger propor tions and the premiums have been in creased, there will be a larger num ber of entries than at any previous? fair. The construction last year of large, light, well ventilated and convenient stables for the livestock has been enough to lnduse farmers to continue to bring their herds here and has Induced some breeders to enter their livestock who have uever done so before. The races have at tracted the owners of the best hornet that come to the Northwest circuit. Proprietors of side attractions ave been alert and know that the crowd will be Immense. Though the fair management has shut out all games of chance and such money making schemes as knife racks, nig ger-baby stands, etc., the concessions have been more numerous than ever before. All the midway attractions will be of the highest order. Tin managers of the local streetcar com pany are also convinced that this will be a great year for the fair and rraugements have been made to so ure plenty of streetcars from Port land to handle the crowds between the fairgrounds and the city. The first Improvement seen insid- he gates Is an addition to the nut hinery hall, made necessary by th larger exhibits. Modern farming methods have encouraged InventioiiH in the line of agricultural implements and the desire to learn about the atest inventions has made the ma hinery department one of the larg est and most interesting on the grounds. The largest Improvement mad this year Is at tho race track when1 the grandstand has been Increased In seating capacity at least fit) per cent by the construction of an extension In front. The grandstand will now accommodate all the people who wish seats during the races.
