First Batch of Notes to be Circulated In July. WASHINGTON, June 12. Actual work of printing the new notes au thorized by the currency law enact ed by congress commenced today and will be pushed forward as rapidly as possible by the bureau of engrav ing and printing. Treusury olhcials believe that the first notes of the new issue wll be placed in emula tion within three we- The new notes will be Identical th the national bank notes now in use, except that the legend at the top of the face of the note "Becured by bonds of the United States" will be changed to "secured by bonds ol the United States or other securi ties." The Controller of the Currency now haB in the vaults ubout $203, 000,000 In old notes belonging to various national banks, uud these will be used as required until new notes are printed and seasoned for issue, it Is probuble that It will re quire six mouth to change all of the plates used by the 6810 national bank, but it is expected that some of the new Issue will be ready for delivery by July 1 next. Several matters connected with the new is sue are, still under discussion, one of the most Important being the de nominations of the noti'H, but It Is thought that the smaller denomina tions will be Issued first, as each autumn there Is a heavy demand for small notes, especially from the West and South. As soon us the department Is ready to supply the new notes In any qunntlty required no further Ihbuo or the present notes will be made, the present notes be ing destroyed as fust as they reach the Treasury for redemption and the new notes lbHued In their place.
