OREGON NOTE 8.
McMlnnvlI.e News-Heporter: A
houue a house. Who has a hount
to real? Nut one to be bad not
evuu a ihack.
Brownsville Tlinea: The votti
should satlufy those opponed to pro
hibition that sentiment In this coun
ty U decidedly against the saloon.
It will probably always remain so,
too. Of this fact the saloon advo
cates should sit up long enough to
take due and careful notice.
Echo Register: Strawberries will
yet bring Into Echo more money
than the alfalfa, for the slmplo rea
son that we have the sunshine and
the soil, the water and the transpor
tation facilities. Strawberries are
made up of water, sunshine and
work, mixed frequently and taken
often.
East Oregoulan: The country
will go ahead aB rapidly or even
more rapidly without saloons as with
them. The Irrigated -lands will sell
as readily, the orchards will bear an
heavily, the wheat harvest will yield
as well, the stock Industry will con
tinue to thrive and merchants will
sell even more goods than ever be
fore. J. M. Sweeney, of Detroit, Mich.,
has purchased, with the Idea of
planting and -cutting up Into or
cbardB, 1400 acres of land near Med
ford, and will organize a company
to Improve It. He will acquire other
property In the Rogue river valley
and establish an office at Detroit for
the purpose, of selling orchard land
In the east.
Though La Grande went dry,
along wth all Union county, the Ob
server says: As an evidence that
we will continue, to grow and that
business Interests will not shun the
city, we are authorized by one uf the
leading firms of the city to say thnt
already Ave new enterprises are
Keeking locations here, and that if
tho Interests n question fall to come
to satisfactory agreements with the
owners of the properties, the optloiiK
will be Immediately snappod up by
othors.
A ranch of 660 ncros on the Uma
tilla river east of Echo has been sold
for $26,000 that a few years ago
was sagebrush waBte worth onlj
$2.60 per acre.
A South Dakota buyer has pur
chased 66,000 sheep lately In Crook
county. For one lot of $ 16,000
yearling wethers he paid $2.26 per
bead.
Dallaa Itemlzer: A majority of
the peoplo of Dallas have decreed by
their votes that our town shall here
after be dry. This being so, The
Itemlzer wants to here and now
make a declaration, and that is that
It must bo made so In fact and not
In name, as are ao many towns In
the Willamette valley. We known
by personal observation that prohibi
tion in most of tho counties Is a mis
nomer, but, If we can help it, such
will not be the case here. The law
must be compiled with In every res
poet. 'There must be no bootlegging,
no blind pigs, nor any of the other
devices commonly used to divert ttu
wish of the people by vuto expressed.
The wheat crop of Morrow county
promises to be a little above the
average
A proposed new electric railroad
will run through Jacksonville if that
town raises $2,600.
Already most of the Grants Tuba
saloon buildings have been rented
for other purposes.

"I had kidney disease for many
years and had been treated by phy

a well known kidney medicine and
other remedies thnt were recom

first half bottle relieved me and four
bottles have cured mo of this terrible
disease. Before I began tsklna
Foley's Kidney Cure I had to make

day and night, and panned a brick

First Batch of Notes to be Circulated
In July.
WASHINGTON, June 12. Actual
work of printing the new notes au
thorized by the currency law enact
ed by congress commenced today and
will be pushed forward as rapidly
as possible by the bureau of engrav
ing and printing. Treusury olhcials
believe that the first notes of the
new issue wll be placed in emula
tion within three we-
The new notes will be Identical
th the national bank notes now in
use, except that the legend at the
top of the face of the note "Becured
by bonds of the United States" will
be changed to "secured by bonds ol
the United States or other securi
ties." The Controller of the Currency
now haB in the vaults ubout $203,
000,000 In old notes belonging to
various national banks, uud these
will be used as required until new
notes are printed and seasoned for
issue, it Is probuble that It will re
quire six mouth to change all of
the plates used by the 6810 national
bank, but it is expected that some
of the new Issue will be ready for
delivery by July 1 next. Several
matters connected with the new is
sue are, still under discussion, one
of the most Important being the de
nominations of the noti'H, but It Is
thought that the smaller denomina
tions will be Issued first, as each
autumn there Is a heavy demand
for small notes, especially from the
West and South. As soon us the
department Is ready to supply the
new notes In any qunntlty required
no further Ihbuo or the present notes
will be made, the present notes be
ing destroyed as fust as they reach
the Treasury for redemption and
the new notes lbHued In their place.

Anna Gould, However, Will Hang on
to tier Millions.
PARIS, June 13. It is reported
that the marriage of INI me. Anna
Gould, divorced wife of Count Uonl
de Caatellane, to Prince Helle de Su-
gan, a cousin of the count, will take
place tomorrow. The wedding will
urobabiy be quiet, aB both the prince
and Mme, Gould have declared their
anxiety to avoid further notoriety.
It Is alleged that all opposition of
the Gould family to the union has
been withdrawn. !
The wedding will close one of the
most sensational international court
ships ever known. The frendship of
Mme. Gould and the prince began
before the former had secured a le- j
gal separation from Count Castel-
Inne. led to a personal .encounter be-'
tween the noble wooer and the dis
carded husband and became almost '
an opfn scandal when Mme. Gould ;
and 'Prince de Sagan made a pleasure
Jaunt to Italy, with a New York bank j
clerk as chaperon. I
There will be a civil ceremony and
so a religious ceremony, the latter
to he performed by a Protestant
minister. The couple will be mar-1
rled under what Is known in France
as the "separation of property re
gime," each party remaining in ab
solute control of hi? or her own for-.
tune, which In the event of death i
will not pass to the survivor, but to j
the heirs of the deceased. i
After the marriage the Prince and
Princes de Sngan will reside In
France.
