A very pleasant meeting of the Drain Hebekah lodge was held Saturday j evening, about 25 members of the or der from Cottage Grove also being ! present. Degree work was conferred and social amusements were enjoyed. John Bush, aged 15 years, has been sentenced to ten years in the Wasbtnp- ton penitentiary. He is the youngest prisoner ever Bent to the penitentiary from that state. He tried to hold up a saloon and twenty men, single banded. The ladies of the M. E. Church are requested to meet in the league room of the church Thursday, March 16th, at 2 o'clock. Not only the Aid Society members, but the ladies of the church, are requested to be present, By order of the president. County Clerk Agee was today noti fied that George Davis, committed to the state insane asylum from this coun ty on Oct. 9, 1901, bad been discharged as cured. Davis was a transient labor ing man who was found wandering aim lessly about near Comstock, At a special meeting of Roseburg Re bekah Lodge No. 41, held Saturday evening, five new members were initi ated. Mrs. G. N. Frazlor, of Eugene, vice president of the Rebekah Assem bly of Oregon, was present on an of ficial visit and expressed herself as be ing much pleased with the work of the Roseburg lodge, After the lodge work was finished refreshments were served and a pleasant social session followed. About 100 members of the order were present. Among the visitors present were 20 members of the Yoncalla Re bekah lodge, as follows: Miss Sue Burt, E. F. Kelly, who has been re ceiving treatment for rheumatism in Portland for the past few months, has about entirely recovered and is now visiting with her mother at Oakland. She is expected here Borne time this week. Misses Lulu Cloyd and Anna M. Wharton returned last week from Portland, where they have been work ing in a wholesale millinery store since February 1st. Miss Wharton has ac cepted a position with Mrs. Joseph sod, and Miss Cloyd will go to Myrtle Creek in about a week to accept a position as head milliner in a store there. Christopher Ross, the well known botanist and collector of curiosities, who made Roseburg his home at fre quent intervals until a few years ago, died In Portland last Saturday night, after an extended illness. He was a native of Germany and 75 years of age. Mr, Ross was a single man He leaves three nephews in Portland, Louis, Richard and George Ebellng. The remains of Edward Kohlhaien, who died in this city last Saturday, were shipped this morning on the northbound local to the family home at Rochester, N. Y,, where the funeral will be held. The body will be ac ts unpalced east by E. L. Fraley. Prior to the shipment of the remains, services wfre held at the residence of Goo, Kohlhagen, brother of too deceased, conducted by Rev. J. A. Townsend. Oregonlan: L. A. Greenley will leave next week for his lime properties in Douglas County, whore he will com mence operations preparatory to open ing up a plant for the manufacture of lime. Arrangements will be made for resuming work so that the manufacture of time will probably begin within two months, and will continue for the re mainder of the year.
