Morrison returned home the last of the week from Roseburg where he had been attending to business mat ters. John Applegate, son of P. Applegate, ot Jacksonville, spent a few days among his relatives in this city. Harry Mahonoy, of Oakland, was in town last Friday. Fred GolT, of Oakland, has been em ployed to teach the intermediate de partment of the Yoncalla school. MissJEmlly Devore left Sunday for Monmouth u re-enter school, ufter pending the holidays with her parents. Chas. Drain, one of the active busi ness men of Drain, was in the city last Saturday. Miss Robin Conn came down Sunday from Molroso to take charge of the pri mary department of the public school Jiere. , School re-opened here Monday after week's vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, of Cottage Grove, iit several days among their old friends here. Rer. Jas. Moore, formerly a resident of this place, dolirered a very interest ing sermon here lout Sunday. Miss Jessie Starr, who has been at tending school at Jellorson, Is home for st short stay with her parents. Harry Lauman left Wednesday for Portland to resume his work in a laun dry, after spending the holidays with bis parents here. Zopher Agee, .. L. nimmlck and sev eral other Oakland Odd Fellows, came down Friday to assist in Installing the new olllcers of Yoncalla Lodgo. W. H. Newman met with a serious misfortune Wednesday. While work ing in Helliwell Bros.' store putting up celling paper he swallowed several tacks. He is now seriously 111 and his doctor says he may have to go to the hospital at Portland and have an oper ation porformed to remove the tacks. X. Y. I consider that when a young lady of 18 years, marries a man of 93 and lives with him, cares for and loves him, It is an honor, and I think that the boys should not loose any time in hunting all the tin cans in the coun try, and pounding them as small as ten cent pieces in honoring the couple. Then I think that the State should grant a pension to this young lady for life. I think this would be far more honorable for the state than to make an appropriation to build a bridge cross the moon at the foot of the Blue mountains, 40 miles from nowhere.
