The work of Improving FleBer and East Sixth streets Is progressing rapidly and Mr. Hildeburn stated to day that he will have completed his contract within ten days. - Misses Ethel Yates and Leila Lents, teachers in the local high school, left this afternTSon for their homes to Bpend the summer. Miss Yates lives at Salem and Miss Lents at Portland. The office of County Judge Mar- sters was the scene ot a very pretty wedding this morning when John Teller and Alma Cole, both of Mill wood, were'untted In marriage. They left this afternoon- for.- Millmood wiiere they will be at home to their many friends who extend their con gratulations and well wishes. Miss Rose Cracroft, a well known Roseburg girl, left this afternoon for Portland where she will be marrlea tomorrow to Minor R. Allen a well known and respected young man of that city. Miss Cracroft has a great many friends in this city who wish the young couple a long and happy wedded life. . The will make their home In Portland. Sheriff Geo. Qulne left this after- noon :f or Myrtle Creek where he will replevin the cattle belonging to Ed Weaver which are being held by Mr. McAllister. Mr. McAllister a few days ago' took possession of the stock claiming that they1 n'aef 'damaged his land and stating that he would hold them until the damage was paid. writ of replevin was Issued and the sheriff will return the stock to their original owner. Mrs, F. H. Stevens, of Eugene, ,who has beoh visiting with friends and relatives in this city, returned home this afternoon. . ' t- -X M. F. Rice and W. j. Moon left this afternoon for Eugene where they will spend a few days attending to business matters. R. E. Smith left In his euto this this morning tor a trip -through the northern part ot the state, where ho will work In the Interest of the tax payers league. He expects to be gone for about a week- or ten days. Mrs. 'Smith left this afternoon for Eugene .where she will remain dur ing the absence of her husband. A couple of drunks arrested Sat urday night did ' considerable dam age to.the city jail. They were taken In custody by Officer Williams and given,' a' room In the "city hotel" where in order to show their happl ness they began to break up. every thing ln-the cell. The stove was torn down,, dishes broken and'' some of the plaster torn off the wall before they were finally- quieted. i '. :.
