6 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN D O R M ITO R Y BREWER HALL NEWS Larry Larkin, Reporter The boys in Brewer Hall have been doing some cleaning in the building. They have also been cleaning their rooms because we want the building and rooms to be clean when we leave. We are even washing our walls and taking down our pictures. All the suitcases were given out Wednesday so the boys are begin ning to pack getting ready to go home. Some of the boys are nearly packed. We, the boys i n r Brewer Hall, wish to thank all the matrons for all they have done for us this year. WINONA HALL PARTY April 19th units five and six had a party in Winona Hall. We girls invited boys to the party. At the begining of the party we had some music and some games were play ed? Stanley Custer and Evelyn Johnson were the prize winners. After refreshments were served we all went to the gym to the dance. We all had a nice time and I am sure everyone enjoyed the nice decorations in Winona’s l i v i n g room where the party was held. Mae Hawley Sarah Nicolai WHAT A ROOM! I really have enjoyed being in a room with five girls this year. I am surely going to miss them this summer. At night when it was time for bed we would all start talking about ghosts, and tell jokes and then the room would become full of laughter. When we would hear the matron coming by for room check we would all pretend that we were asleep. When she would get downstairs the giggling would start again. I really have enjoyed being on the Chemawa campus this year. I have surely accomplished much in school. Sometimes when I was in a good mood for class I would whis per and then I would get called on. Thanks to all the teachers for teach ing me many things this year. Loberta Swartz M c B r id e h a ll Ursula Pete, Reporter Mrs. Kitto and her Unit had a party. It was held in the rumpus room. She was planning to have a NEWS picnic outside but the rain stop ped that and besides it has been too cold for a picnic. The girls all had a nice time at the party and they liked the refreshments. They enjoyed playing the games. Some of the girls who have not been going, to the Friday night dances are going now. The girls like the activity. Mrs. Frances Ryan, who came in to help in place of Mrs. Benally left April 15th for a new job in Albany, Oregon. Mrs. Benally has her baby boy so we hope that she will be back soon. We miss her. Sunday afternoon, twenty-eight girls went for a walk with Mrs. McMurty. The weather was lovely. We saw, many beautiful flowers, there were red t u l i p s , pansies, primroses and many other kinds. We enjoyed our walk very much. On April 23rd we had our Unit party in the gymnasium. Mrs. Tur ner, our matron, helped us to plan for it. We played games and had a good time. Violet Wood MITCHELL HALL Frank Frank, Reporter We have been fixing our bulletin boards here in Mitchell Hall. We drew pictures of the airplanes and busses which the students will ride while they are returning home from Chemawa. I guess everyone is happy to go home and see their folks once again. I know that the boys and girls will miss Chemawa but they will be glad to get home. It will be good to return here for our education and learn more things about the modern world. I wish all the boys, girls and staff members have a nice sum mer and have fun. There are many hazards around the home, away from home and on the highway. When you come to a street, look both ways before crossing. When approaching rail road tracks, do the same. If a train is coming, WAIT, do not try to beat it. You might fall and it is hard to tell how fast a train is traveling. If you p r a c t i c e safety, your friends will notice and it might make them safety conscious. In that way you will be helping oth ers as well as protecting yiurself. Tom Wheeler CATS When my teacher moved across the campus last fall she had to leave a little stray kitten at the Teachers Cottage where she had been living. She did not want the little kitten to go hungry so she has had me feeding it but since she left there have been three oth er kittens come so now we feed four. I really have fun feeding them. I get a can of cat food and a pint of milk from Miss Morse after school. On Saturdays and Sundays I go to her place to get the food. Nita Cleveland BOYS" INTRAMURALS Levi Lott, Reporter The Intramural program is going along well. We are having a billiard tournament, a volley ball tourna ment, a track and field meet next week and softball. All the tourna- will be completed but soft- ball. The wet weather will stop us froni finishing that one. At the end of these tournaments, a very nice trophy will be given to the winning classroom of our Recreational In tramural League. Many classrooms have a very good chance to win it. DID THEY GO?? Vocational II girls are conspicu ous by their absence from the Che mawa Campus. While Mrs Bran non checks her Student Roster, let us glance at departures for Port land, Salem, Eugene, Albany, Lake Oswego and Mt. Angel. A Home Service job provides stepping stones to work in other areas, such as Nurse Aid Training factory jobs, motel work, nurserv school aides,, and eventually as a housewife in her own home, Blanche Isaacs
