VOLUME 59 I | Students Enjoy Lions7 Club Party All the students went to the Li ons’ Club Party on December 19th. The party was held in the audi torium. First we saw. foiir clowns. They were real funny and goofie. Some of the clowns were playing funny jokes and some of them were frolicking. They made every one laugh. The next act was a magician. He showed Us some very exciting tricks with his magic. We watched him very closely trying to find out what he was doing with his magic hut we Estill don’t understand what he did. There was some band music. We liked that. Then Santa Clause came .in and he passed out bags of candy to all the Chemawastudents. We surely enjoyed the party. All the students thank ’the Lions’ Club for giving us such a nice party. Jim Christian Henry Tachene, Julious John CHRISTMAS AT CHEMAWA We boys had a real nice Christ mas at McNary. Some rooms were well decorated. Two rooms won prizes. One of the rooms happened to be mine. On December 24th, right after the program, McNary Hall boys re ceived our gifts and treats. On December 25th, Christmas, some of the boys served coffee and dough nuts. Sinka Littlefish Santa in the Auditorium NUMBER 2 CHEMAWA, OREGON, JANUARY, 1963 TRIP TO THE FARM Mrs. Grape invited eight Alaskan boys to visit her farm. On the trip to the farm we had lots of fun. There were many things to see on the way. When we got to Mr. and Mrs. Grape’s farm we went to the gar den. There we had some vegetables. We had lettuce, radishes, carrots, Swiss chard, grapes, tomatoes and one cucumber. We ate some of the vegetables that we got from the garden. After we went to the garden we went to see the horses. We sat on Copper, a kind horse. The boys who sat on Copper had their pictures taken. We went out to see the tractor. It was /fun to sit on a tractor. The boys on the tractor had their pic tures taken. We walked around the field and chased the cows. Mrs. Grape took us to a neighbor’s home across the road to see a calf. On the way home we stopped at a store. We had a very nice time on our farm visit. Siome of the other boys will visit the farm later on. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Grape, for the nice farm visit. Ronnie Williams Sidney Carle OUR BIG CHRISTMAS PARTY The December 12 Junior High party was the most exciting party I’ve ever had. We played bingo, games, danced and had refresh ments. Everyone had their own lik ings. Steven Levi The decorations for the party were real nice. The girls and boys did a good job decorating, it made some of us girls feel like we were at home. But the party ended too fast. _ Lorena Hatch There were doughputs, coffee and punch. After the girls returned to their dorm, the boys cleaned up the rooms. Then we went back to our dorm and slept with our stom achs full of sweets. Ben Charley We Welcome To Chemawa Mrs. Shirley Hendren has re placed Mrs. Holman as clerk in the Academic department. Mr. and Mrs. Trent Hendren and their three daughters^ live at Aumsville, Ore. Mr. Alexander Nastos is our new cook in the school kitchen. ¿Mr. Nastos replaces Mrs. Pigsley who transferred to the dining room. Mrs. Dorthea Hooten, elementary teacher^ replaces Mrs. Ward who has been doing substitute teaching. Mr. Doyle Hatfield, elementary teacher, replaces Mrs. Andrews who was a substitute teacher. Mr. Hatfield is a graduate of Oregon College Of Education^'; Monmouth, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Hatfield and their four children live in Mon mouth. This is Mr. Hatfield’s first experienced working with Indian students. Mrs. Judith Hench, secretary to Mr. Tadlock, our social worker. We, students and staff, welcome all of you to Chemawa. We would like to extend a wel come to our new area director of education, Doctor Solon G. Ayers, of Portland, Oregon. Grace One SPECIAL TRIP We had a special trip to Salem with our home economics teacher. We went to shop for our project. We made our shopping list. We had to know the size of our pat tern and the color of material that we wanted. When we got to town we went into a store and bought our pat terns, material, thread, buttons and zippers; After we bought all this we looked at material for our next project. These trips teach us how to plan ahead before going shopping. When we are out on jobs it will be easier for us to shop and choose what we want.
