THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 9 AT THE D O R M IT O R IE S BREWER HALL NEWS The Brewer hall house council officers are as follows: President, Stanley Custer; Vice President Gary Mills; Treasurer, Earl Wolf; Secretary, Arthur Ahginga; Serge- ant-at-Ams, Tom Atencio. The of ficers meet every night at 8:45. The Brewer hall boys have Unit meetings every week. Some of the Units meet on Monday, others on Tuesday or Wednesday. Brewer hall is sponsoring the Thursday night assembly October 11. They are also sponsoring a dance on October 19. Kenneth Largo was here for six weeks before he went to Stewart, Nevada, to attend high school there. We boys all wish him lots of luck. The contractors are building new washrooms, shower rooms and laundry rooms for Brewer hall this year. Thè building will be finished by January 1. The boys all think that it is going to be very nice when it is all completed. Thomas Gordon OUR DORM The Mitchell hall boys appreci ate the way their building has been painted and arranged. New beds have been put into the students’ rooms. The arrangement of the rooms make them more than just a room. The Mitchell hall boys seem very happy with the things that they see and do. Some of the boys like to go to the movies on Friday nights "but some of the older boys think that it is more fun to go to the Friday night dances. Saturday is the day when the boys can go to town and buy things that they need' or like. The boys are supposed to conduct themselves properly at ail times. Many people see us when we are in Salem. One thing'more, all the" boys are much interested in tasting the ap^ pies in the orchard fight now. Tommy Shorty PLEASE WAKE ME! If was bedtime in the dormitory. The matron had turned the lights out. Every girl in our room was in her bed. The girls told me to wake them up in the morning as soon as I woke up. I woke up after I had slept a long time or I thought that I had slept a long time. I started waking up the girls. They all got up out of bed and went to the wash room to wash for breakfast. The matron heard us and came to see what was going on. She told us to go back to bed. I asked her what time it was and she said, “It is only three o’clock.” I just couldn’t be lieve it. When I got back to my room all the other girls were in bed trying to get back to sleep. In the morning, when we got up around six o’clock, I told them, “Don’t ever ask me to wake you up again.” The girls laughed and said ; no they would never ask me to awaken them again for they wanted to sleep all night. Irene Ramoth McBRIDE AND WINONA HALLS When the girls arrived, at Mc Bride and Winona halls this fall, they found their dorms shining from top to bottom. There were new curtains, lamps and the,living room in Winona was covered with a new tile floor. Learning to live together is made easy by Guidance Classes which are held at McBride and Winona each Monday and Tuesday evenings. Although elections for House Councils have not been held yet, the following girls are doing good jobs as Unit leaders: McBride Hall: Unit 1, Helen Green, Irene Billy. Unit 2, Orlinda Johnson, Adeline Junby. Unit 3, Dorcas Rock, Bessie Cly. Unit 4, Susan Grandson, Elizabeth Tom. Unit 5, Sharon Valarde, Recreation. Winona Hall: Units 1 and 2, Jane Griest, Jane Lee. United 3 and 4, Stella Becentij Roselen Larkin. Un its 7 and 8, Janana Castiana, La- berta Swartz. NEWS FROM WINONA This summer all of the rooms in the dormitory were repaired. Some rooms both upstairs and downstairs were repainted. Others have new furniture such is chairs with seat cushions on them, new dressers along with mirrors, and beds. There are new doors to every room and also light switches. We can turn the lights on and off any time we wish without having to turn all the lights off or on at one time in Winona hall. It seems as though we own the room. But then, we have some rules as to when to turn them off at night. The dormitory is really nice and neater than it was before. I’m en joying being in my own room when ever I’m in there. In fact, Chemawa is a good home for everyone. Diana Shorty OUR BUILDING I would like to tell you about our building activities. We take care of our building. We wash and polish the floors in our building. It is im portant that our floors are kept nice and clean, We have a guidance meeting every Thursday evening in the au ditorium. It is important that all the boys go to the meetings. There is a quiejt hour every evening at eight o’clock. Then we study so we get our home work done. That is most important. Roger Neal MITCHELL HALL'S PROGRAM On Thursday nights the boys de partment hold meetings in the audi torium. At each meeting the boys put on a program. The boys of Mitchell hall put on their program. It was a very good program. It was put on by Unit One boys. The program was called “Heros in Books.” The boys that sponsored the program deserve a word of praise for a job well done. Tommy Shorty DORMITORY LIVING Being in a dormitory is like be ing back home. We have our details in the morning; in order to keep our dormitory and the school cam pus clean. We keep our rooms in good shape but some rooms look mighty fancy before clean-up time. When we do something wrong we have to report to the office and talk things over for awhile with the matron. Last week I heard that one boy was caught by a matron as he was running down the stairs. Mark Harrison THURSDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS On Thursday night all the boys from the dormitories go over to the auditorium for building meeting. Sometimes Mr. Wright, Mr. Marsh all or Mr. Hudson talks to us. They remind? us of the rules of the build ings and everywhere on the cam pus. Sometimes a dormitory will put on a program. Sometimes the House Council talks to us about standards and activities. Sometimes we see a film on conduct and stand ards. Alfred Keyonnie
