THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN Thoughts On Returning From Oregon State Fair Oji, Boy! Did I have fun riding, especially in the “Rocket” or what ever they call it! I just lâughed all of the way through the ride but my friend who was sitting by me was n’t laughing at all. She was just screaming and hollering. I tried to tell my friend not to scream so loud but she said she couldn’t help it. I guess I screamed once or twice when it was too sudden for me. I had other rides on the roller coast er and ferris wheel. I didn’t like the roller coaster too much. I kept bumping around too much, that’s why. I had never been to anything like the State Fair in Alaska or any where. I guess I’ll say this was the best experience of my life. Thank you, Mr. Walters, for letting us go. Brenda Tokeinha My trip to the State Fair was valuable because I had never been to a fair before. We went to see a 4-H Club exhibit. Some of the clothës were really neat. Emma Weyapuk The things at the State Fair that were interesting were the cows, horses, and chickens. There were buildings with nothing in them but just these animals. Leroy Isaac MY TRIP TO THE OREGON STATE FAIR Last year we did hot, have a chance to go down to thé State Fair. But this lucky year we had a chance to go. Each class went to the fair by turns. On the morning it was our turn to go, I had to go to the hospi tal for a physical check-up. When I came back to my class, there was nobody in it. I looked for them but couldn’t find them. I asked one of the teachers where my class was. He told me they had left the fair already. Oh, how my heart sank to the bottom of my feet!! Then one of them asked me to go with their group since my group had left me behind. My, howmy heart jumped! When we got to the fair we walk ed all around. I didn’t want to go back to Chemawa that time. When I came home, I said to one of the teachers, “I went with my wallet fat, and came back broke.” He started to laugh. Anyway, it was thé most joyous trip ever. Max Yunak 7 Trip Highlights Are Reported We started from Tuba City, Ari zona, and we went through four states^ It took us two nights and one day. We had supper at Las Vegas and breakfast at Reno. It was an exciting trip. I tried not to go to sleep but I went to sleep and spent my time sleeping all the way. Alice Rose Zahne My trip to Chemawa was very in teresting; I left home town and went to Nome. We stayed at Nome for five days. Just when I was get ting tired of Nome we went to Fairbanks and then on to Seattle and Chemawa. I am happy to be back in school here. Jones Wongittlin When the day came for the stu dents from Kotzebue and some of the little villages, around there to leave, I was glad that we were fin ally going to Chemawa. But when we took off I didn’t feel very good because it was pretty hard to leave home and g o so far, for the first time. y It took us about two hours and thirty-five minutes to go from Fair banks to Seattle by Alaska Airlines Convair 880 Jet Clipper. Gary Mills I My trip to Chemawa took three days of thrilling airplane rides and a bus from Seattle to Tacoma to Chemawa. It was exciting meeting our old friends at the International Air ports of Bethel, Anchorage and Seattle. It was also nice to get ac quainted with other new students coming to Chemawa. I Arriving here at Chemawa was exciting, too; for we knew once again we were going to see2 old friends and once again spend a winter without cold winter snow storms. But I guess the cold winter snow storms Will be substituted by the heavy rainfall. Anyway, heavy rain doesn’t matter as long as you have a raincoat to keep you from getting wet for we’re back at Che mawa once again. Martha Moore My trip to Chemawa was slow be cause I had to stay in Fairbanks for six days, but I enjoyed it. It was wonderful to stay in the Hos pitality House in Fairbanks and make some new friends. Dorcus Rock On the 27th of August I left home by the N. CJ Airlines. I didn’t have time to eat my breakfast. The plane came while I was in bed. So I just got up, took my luggage and left home with an empty stomach. Just before taking off I saw Jacob Andrew in his boat checking his fish net. Chemawa is a lot different from my home place. Chemawa has big trees and hot afternoons. Wilson Berlin Man! Riding in the jet airliner was very good. Inside of the jet airliner it was quiet. As soon as we got to Chemawa we went to the dorm and had a meeting about the rules and how we should do at Chemawa. When that was over I was dead asleep. In about-one hour one of the boys woke me up and by golly, it was Earl Cleveland. Andrew Jasper A CHEMAWA RETURNEE SAYS: I was glad to see all of my friends again. Some of them were changed and some of them were the same as they were last year. I was glad to see them because some of the girls always help me. I was glad to meet all of my teachers and helpers in the dormitory. The cam- pus was almost the same as last year but there were lots of pretty flowers and thick grass. There were many more students than last year. It was so hot wheii i we got here that we had to take our coats off. Edith Kaigelak HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS At Home Economics we saw a film that was very important for us to see. The film Was “How, to Make Freinds.” It told how we make friends with different kinds of people who live in the world. I am very glad we saw the film be cause there are many girls who don’t know how to make friends. Elva Jean Clark CAMPUS TREES The different kinds of trees on our campus make it look very nice. The campus looks especially beau tiful when the trees are all trim med up. On the campus there are pine, spruce, cedar, maple, walnut, fir, weeping willows, tamarisk, and birch trees. There are other trees, too, that I do not know, I would like to know about all the kinds of trees that grow on the campus. Julie Redhouse Herbert Trujillo
