These Navajo students with Mr. Ashcut, Mrs. Widby, an d Mrs. John ston ctre some of the 175 who re turned to their reservation homes for the summer. This y ear finds 245 back at Chem aw a. Presidential candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower didn't visit the cam pus, but as his special passed through the cam pus, he w aved to the stu dents from the rear platform. Commissioner Myer addressed the staff at a m eeting during his brief stay here. Dr. R. M. Tisinger, A rea Director of Schools, Portland. Dr. Tisinger en tertained m em bers of the staff with pictures of Burma, taken during his +our there as a m em ber of UNESCO. Miss Aleta Brownlee, Director of Child W elfare, W ashington, D. C. Miss Cleora C. Helbing, Supervisor of Indian Eudcation. Col. E. Morgan Pryse, A rea Dir ector of Indian Affairs, Portland. Miss Consuella Gosnell, A rea Soc ial Worker, Portland. MAGIC ASSEMBLY "M ysteries from the four corners of the earth" found their w ay to the stag e of the C hem aw a auditorium on Friday, Oct. 17. Houdeen an d Com pany, the w onder workers, brought ventriloquism, T.V. Puppets, anim at ed suspension, juggling, magic, an d hypnotism to the C hem aw a students. Agricultural students from Mr. Starling's ninth a n d tenth grade classes w ere in Salem on W ednes day, Oct. 8 to take the w ritten exam ination on the O regon State Driver's M anual. Those m aking passing grades were: John Thorpe— 100 W illiam W ym an—95 Casim er Andrew—95 Franklin Lewis—95 G ilbert Yellow Owl—90 Rodger McKenzie—85 These students received their driv ing permits. After a period of in struction in driving practice, they hope to pass their driving tests and receive drivers' licenses. CARNIVAL PLANS MADE The an n u al H allow e'en Carnival will be held Friday, Oct. 31 in the gym nasium . Mr. Duncan h as been nam ed chairm an of the affair. He, with the committees a ssig n ed by him, are a t work preparing for the night of fun. DR. STONE RECUPERATING Dr. Stone h as b e e n confined to his home for several w eeks due to ill ness. We are looking forw ard to seeing him around the cam pus soon. He has been greatly m issed by both students a n d em ployees.
