This is the second time Unit II has won the trip. Nice going, Unit II! High point McBride girls went along on the trip, also. We were all glad to welcome Leona Burke back to school. Leona has been at Tacoma for the past several weeks getting her tonsils out. Ellen Brown is also at Tacoma. How long she will remain there is indefinite, but we wish her a speedy recovery. Winona hall held “Open House" on February 22 as has been cus tomary for the past three years. The invited guests consisted of all em ployees, the McNary hall boys, the older Brewer hall boys, and the house officers of McBride hall Joyce James and Eulalie Minthorn greeted the guests and directed them to the Guest Book. Helen George was in charge of the Guest Book. After the guests signed in the book they were directed to Jeanette Blake and lino- gene Washington who explained the ballots and the guests were invited to vote for the room they thought the cleanest and most attractive and which had the most courteous host ess. Georgianna Young and Janice Rombeau were in charge of Units I and II who acted as Guides to show the guests the rooms and the dormi tory. After the guests had seen all the rooms and made their selections of the best rooms, they left their bal lots with Louise C Benally and Millie Jefferson who were in charge of the HCMMU 4 15 50 5 00 Ballot Box. Then the guests were con ducted to the dinette where Units III and IV were in charge of the refreshments served attractively at a red, white and blue decorated table with candles and a blue hya cinth. Cookies made by the girls and punch were served. Mrs. Sea- wright gave us a huge bouquet of pussy willows for our Living Room for which we thank her very much. The winning rooms were: For the 2- bed room, a tie between Room No. 19 and No. 50 (Joyce James, Eulalie Minthorn) (Jeanette Blade and Imo gene Washington); for the 4-bed room it was Room No. 21 (Darlene Lozeau, Isabel Patchpe, Hazel But ler, Edna Ironpipe); for the 5-bed room it was Room No. 47 (Marie Lewis, Delores Craig, Sylvia Wil liams, and Beatrice Ramos), and for the 6-bed room it was Room No. 37 (Anna C. Benally, Grace Bejoe, Ida May Benally, Mary K. Jones, Dorothy Peter and Betty Goatson). Everyone seemed happy at the results. Open House at Winona hall proved to be very successful The Guest Book showed that we welcomed 151 peo ple to Winona hall on George Wash ington's birthday. Mabelle Edwards, Reading Room Councillor, is very happy that the Reading Room is being fixed up with new tables, chairs and book shelves. This v/ill give the students an even more pleasant atmosphere to do their reading and studying in. Winona hall girls are very grateful to Mrs. Phagen and her Beauty College for giving so many of the girls such nice permanents. Each Tuesday five girls go to Salem to have their hair cut and to get per manents. Most of the girls in Win ona hall who have wanted to go have had a chance. McBride hall girls will get to go next M c B ride The weather is surely changing the girls at McBride hall. Everyone is going outside and having a good time. Some of the girls are playing baseball and the roller skates are being put to good use. Rose Mc Dougal (known as Turtle) has really fixed up the front yard with her gardening. She has put in some iris and daffodils out in front and in tends to plant some flowers. It was a lot of work spading, but we are all proud of how well it looks. Group 3 won the February party for being the best group so the house officers gave them a popcorn party. We played bingo and some other games and everyone had a good time. One of the girls said it was the best party the officers have had this year. Our movies last week were a car toon, “Who Killed Cock Robin," and an Abbott and Costello comedy McBride hall girls like Miss Chal lis's new hair cut. Our house meeting program this week was a play presented by groups 1 and 2, assisted by Elo’se Butler and Rose Mary Laverdure. Miss Onman was a quest at the meeting McNARY Spring is just around the corner so it is said but it seems to be right here if one looks in the reception hall of McNary hall for new furniture in green and rust colors has been added, the old furniture has been transferred to the reading room. The lawnmowers are getting an early work-out as the lawn takes on a new spring look McNary hall has had many visit ors recently. Among the guests listed the following names appeared: from The Dalles, Oregon, Louie Quaempts, Louis Crane, Rod Cowpoo and Fran cis Shillal, Tom Yallup and George Gibson, father and uncle of Owen and Wilfred Yallup, students at Che mawa; from Pendleton, Oregon These two gentlemen were here for the celebration of Chemawa's birth day. Oscar Gensaw visited his sister in Portland. Oregon, over the week end. The McNary hall boys were sorry to learn that Alec Samuels, building leader and varsity player, will be confined to the hospital in Tacoma for a time. The boys all hope that Alec will hurry back
