HOME MAKING
WINONA
Congratulations go to Georgie
Young and her unit for winning the
Unit Award trip for February. This
is the second time Unit II has won
the trip. Nice going, Unit II! High
point McBride girls went along on
the trip, also.
We were all glad to welcome
Leona Burke back to school. Leona
has been at Tacoma for the past
several weeks getting her tonsils
out. Ellen Brown is also at Tacoma.
How long she will remain there is
indefinite, but we wish her a speedy
recovery.
Winona hall held “Open House"
on February 22 as has been cus
tomary for the past three years. The
invited guests consisted of all em
ployees, the McNary hall boys, the
older Brewer hall boys, and the
house officers of McBride hall Joyce
James and Eulalie Minthorn greeted
the guests and directed them to the
Guest Book. Helen George was in
charge of the Guest Book. After the
guests signed in the book they were
directed to Jeanette Blake and lino-
gene Washington who explained the
ballots and the guests were invited
to vote for the room they thought the
cleanest and most attractive and
which had the most courteous host
ess. Georgianna Young and Janice
Rombeau were in charge of Units I
and II who acted as Guides to show
the guests the rooms and the dormi
tory. After the guests had seen all
the rooms and made their selections
of the best rooms, they left their bal
lots with Louise C Benally and Millie
Jefferson who were in charge of the

ducted to the dinette where Units
III and IV were in charge of the
refreshments served attractively at
a red, white and blue decorated
table with candles and a blue hya
cinth. Cookies made by the girls
and punch were served. Mrs. Sea-
wright gave us a huge bouquet of
pussy willows for our Living Room
for which we thank her very much.
The winning rooms were: For the 2-
bed room, a tie between Room No.
19 and No. 50 (Joyce James, Eulalie
Minthorn) (Jeanette Blade and Imo
gene Washington); for the 4-bed
room it was Room No. 21 (Darlene
Lozeau, Isabel Patchpe, Hazel But
ler, Edna Ironpipe); for the 5-bed
room it was Room No. 47 (Marie
Lewis, Delores Craig, Sylvia Wil
liams, and Beatrice Ramos), and for
the 6-bed room it was Room No. 37
(Anna C. Benally, Grace Bejoe, Ida
May Benally, Mary K. Jones, Dorothy
Peter and Betty Goatson). Everyone
seemed happy at the results. Open
House at Winona hall proved to be
very successful The Guest Book
showed that we welcomed 151 peo
ple to Winona hall on George Wash
ington's birthday.
Mabelle Edwards, Reading Room
Councillor, is very happy that the
Reading Room is being fixed up with
new tables, chairs and book shelves.
This v/ill give the students an even
more pleasant atmosphere to do
their reading and studying in.
Winona hall girls are very grateful
to Mrs. Phagen and her Beauty
College for giving so many of the
girls such nice permanents. Each
Tuesday five girls go to Salem to
have their hair cut and to get per
manents. Most of the girls in Win
ona hall who have wanted to go
have had a chance. McBride hall
girls will get to go next
M c B ride
The weather is surely changing
the girls at McBride hall. Everyone
is going outside and having a good
time. Some of the girls are playing
baseball and the roller skates are
being put to good use. Rose Mc
Dougal (known as Turtle) has really
fixed up the front yard with her
gardening. She has put in some iris
and daffodils out in front and in
tends to plant some flowers. It was
a lot of work spading, but we are all
proud of how well it looks.
Group 3 won the February party
for being the best group so the
house officers gave them a popcorn
party. We played bingo and some
other games and everyone had a
good time. One of the girls said it
was the best party the officers have
had this year.
Our movies last week were a car
toon, “Who Killed Cock Robin," and
an Abbott and Costello comedy
McBride hall girls like Miss Chal
lis's new hair cut.
Our house meeting program this
week was a play presented by
groups 1 and 2, assisted by Elo’se
Butler and Rose Mary Laverdure.
Miss Onman was a quest at the
meeting

The McNary hall boys were sorry
to learn that Alec Samuels, building

Alec will hurry back
