During Christmas vacation Frank Dumont accepted a job of overhauling the motor of a tractor in the State of Washington. During this holiday season, and for lack of time we painters were unable to do outside work; we did a little window fixing, varnishing and on painting several small articles. The carpenters have just brought in a new bureau, which Howard Churchill is giving an ivory finish, while some of the boys have been matching stain on the chairs which have just been brought in. Starting Monday morning the painters will be kept at the practice house. Happy New Year everybody! This is station MCN broadcasting! ... A large cabinet model, Philco radio was presented to McNary Hall on Christmas eve. This is a gift that we all appreciate. Thanks a lot ... • Several of the boys from our hall spent the holidays at their homes .... Herman LaCourse took the part of Santa Claus in the Christmas program which was held in the reading room on Christmas eve. You looked real, Herman. The Winona Hall girls on Christmas Eve came down stairs in a procession singing “Silent Night, Holy Night.” All was dark except for the girls that were holding lighted candles. After this a few Christmas songs and readings were given. Then Santa and his helpers distributed the Christmas gifts. The girls can all say that Santa didn’t forget them this year. The auto shop boys have completed the remodeling of a Chandler car as an extra “pick up” truck. They rebuilt a sedan body, making a truck cab of it, extended the frame of the car 20 inches and refitted all brakes, gas line and other connections to fit the new wheel-base length. Due to the holidays only necessary routine work was carried on by the engineers. . . The electricians are rapidly pushing to completion the installation of the new telephones. The entire system should be in operation by January 8th. The boys in the paint shop, under the direction of Mr. Sanders, have been painting some of thebedrooms, pantries and halls in the practice house.
