BOY SCOUTS
Two Troops of Boy Scouts visited Troop 12 in Sa

Troops went to the State house for the Court of Hon
or where 100 boys passed their Scout test.
Our Troops, 7 and 8, gave a talkie show on Dec. 28th,
trying to raise funds to carry on their work. We ap
preciate the kind support all the employees gave us.
Respectfully yours, The Boy Scouts.
BEAUTY PARLOB,
The books have come for the beauty parlor. Regular
lessons will start the first of the new year. The girls
taking the course are very much interested in their
work under the capable instruction of Miss Funk. The
new permanent waving machine has kept Miss Funk
busy during her spare time.
MISCELLANEA
The Girls’ Dramatic Club at their last meeting had
a business discussion on raising money for plays and
stage make-ups.
After the business discussion a
group of girls gave a skit, which proved to be of in
terest both because of its originality and the way it
was presented.
The blacksmith department recently received its
year’s supply of iron and coal, which was very much
needed. From nowon the first-year boys will not be
handicaped in any way. During Christmas vacation
Frank Dumont accepted a job of overhauling the motor
of a tractor in the State of Washington.
During this holiday season, and for lack of time we
painters were unable to do outside work; we did a little
window fixing, varnishing and on painting several
small articles. The carpenters have just brought in a
new bureau, which Howard Churchill is giving an ivory
finish, while some of the boys have been matching
stain on the chairs which have just been brought in.
Starting Monday morning the painters will be kept
at the practice house.
Happy New Year everybody! This is station MCN
broadcasting! ... A large cabinet model, Philco
radio was presented to McNary Hall on Christmas
eve. This is a gift that we all appreciate. Thanks a
lot ... • Several of the boys from our hall
spent the holidays at their homes ....
Herman LaCourse took the part of Santa Claus in the
Christmas program which was held in the reading
room on Christmas eve. You looked real, Herman.
The Winona Hall girls on Christmas Eve came down
stairs in a procession singing “Silent Night, Holy
Night.” All was dark except for the girls that were
holding lighted candles. After this a few Christmas
songs and readings were given. Then Santa and his
helpers distributed the Christmas gifts. The girls can
all say that Santa didn’t forget them this year.
The auto shop boys have completed the remodeling
of a Chandler car as an extra “pick up” truck. They
rebuilt a sedan body, making a truck cab of it, extended
the frame of the car 20 inches and refitted all brakes,
gas line and other connections to fit the new wheel-base
length.
Due to the holidays only necessary routine work was
carried on by the engineers. . . The electricians
are rapidly pushing to completion the installation of
the new telephones. The entire system should be in
operation by January 8th.
The boys in the paint shop, under the direction of
Mr. Sanders, have been painting some of thebedrooms,
pantries and halls in the practice house. We are very
proud of the fine workmanship shown in this job and
the girls are now ready for the furnishing of the bed
rooms, the curtaining of the windows, etc. The first
group of girls will move in about the 10th of January.
